your decision should be made based on
a) which one is cheaper
b) does blue or yellow look cooler?
because otherwise, your experience will be the same, mostly. |

One DJ i know did a blind test comparing the Ortofons with the Whitelabels. He determined that the ortofons were better sounding that the whitelabels. Anyone else have a valid opinion on this?
ALso, is it fact that Ortofon fixed the connection problem with the tonearm? |

The difference between Ortofons and Shures is mostly a personal taste.
The Ortofons have a "rounder" bass, and a light rolloff in the high frequencies, while the Whitelabels have more tight mids, and go pretty strong in the hi freqs. Some people prefer that slightly "warmer" sound (including me) and thus prefer the Orto's. Other people might have a slight preference for that "harsher" sound, so they will opt for the Whitelabels.
In this league of quality, there really is no one better than the other.
Yes, Ortofon changed the connections. The old style used flat connectors, which tend to push back the internal tonearm connectors, but only if you removed the cartridge a lot (so for most people this doesn't really pose a problem, even then, most people that had probs was because the tonearm nut was loose, so it was more of a TT problem). The classic trick was to put one of those rubber rings (like you find on the standard Technics headshells) on the connector inset.
The new style has the round connectors (again, like on the standard headshells), and they are a bit shorter.
Obviously, this only apply to Concordes, as the OM's use an apart headshell. |

My Nightclub E’s arrived yesterday and they are simply fantastic! The sound quality is superb, producing a punchy warm bass. They seem to require a little more weight than my Stantons did, but then again, they are only new and I’ll be able to relax the weight and anti-skate when they’ve broken in. Considering that elliptical styli are supposed to have a harder time staying in the groove, they stick to the record like glue! Here’s how they are setup at the moment.
Weight: 3
Anti-Skate: 3
Height: 0
A sound purchase! :) |
