| I saw them live, or so youd call it, when i saw tiesto, last mmm november i think at mezzanine. They played, if you call it playing, on a laptop the whole time, they dont do ! Nice guys, i met them both, but come on, any geek can sit there and click a ing mouse. Tiesto had to remove all their crap so he could spin on some decks like a REAL dj. Also, their set was SO boring, G&D remix, G&D remix. Just mixing song to song, no real purpose, nothing i pay to see. They played ATCR twice in 2 hours. I just dont get why theyre hot all of a sudden, being a decent producer doesnt mean your for a dj, as they convincingly prove. |

dude they aren't just ing sitting up there on winamp playing differnt songs
they are actually up there remixing and "producing" the songs live
lets see tiesto do that up on stage
being a "REAL" DJ doesn't mean you only spin on turntables.
a DJ plays music to entertain the crowd and show them a good time. it doesn't matter what medium he/she uses aslong as they can use that medium to keep the vibe alive or bring it up. |

I can say that their mixing isn't outstanding but they do get the job done.
Plus when I saw PVD he was using a labtop. He is still a DJ.
hehe, I am reminded of old people telling me electronic music isn't music. Damn old farts. |

I've been DJing for 10 years... and I have always used vinyl.... Until recently, I started DJing using a laptop... And let me tell you, it's just as hard as it is with regular vinyl. The laptop doesn't mix the songs for you.... the DJ does... Contrary to popular belief, the laptop doesn't even beat match the songs for you.... That's not the point of Laptop DJing....
I use a program called FINAL SCRATCH... and it's freakin' awesome.... It's just like mixing with regular vinyl except you're mixing an MP3. I still have to control the song using turntables and a mixer... I still have to do everything you normally do when Mixing with regular records.... The big difference is SOUND QUALITY and the less weight you have to carry on!!!! Damn... at times when I play at certain clubs, the DJs before me use vinyl and when I go up, my music sounds so much louder and clearer... Why? Because it's CD Quality... You can't get that quality with vinyl... The louder the music, the cleaner the sound, the happier your crowd will be... And believe it or not, Needles still skip when doing laptop DJing.....
My two cents!!!
DJ Woody :haha: |

i know what you mean....i mean it would be like pvd mixing his remixes after remixes...but it still requires skills to mix, it's just that, it's a lot easier if it's the same artist remixes. I've never seeen G&D live but they are really talented producers for sure. |

I was there that night when G&D opened for Tiesto at the mezz...it was on October 26.
1. Josh (Gabriel) uses a program called Ableton Live. It does not beatmatch and all the crap...he still has to do it. Using laptops for DJing is coming more and more often. Would you say Paul van Dyk doesn't do real DJing? Just curious, since he uses NO vinyle and NO CDs in his sets anymore...he is 100% Final Scratch with his laptop. And he remasteres and retunes EVERY track he gets...he has said this himself. And other DJings are following suit. I think John '00' Fleming just said in the past few months that his goal was to be using a laptop by the end of this year. His main influence for him to getting on this is being impressed with Josh Gabriel playing with a laptop when G&D opened for him down in LA @ Circus.
2. Dave (Dresden) uses all CDs and has for years.
As for the set being boring, then it must be the fact that you simply don't like their type of music. Because that is still the best live mix I've ever heard from them. It was flawless (their mixing is known to be iffy) and showed how talented they could be mixing when they have a great night. In fact, out of the 20 or so people I personally knew there that night, I would say 15 walked away loving G&Ds set (to their own surprise) more than Tiesto's. And Tiesto's set was quite crazy that night, too, albeit short because he got stuck in San Diego because of the fires and got into town very late. He even had the crowd jumping so hard it was causing the vinyls to skip, something I have never seen before at any club.
Personally, I liked both sets equally...I love both of their styles which are drastically different. |

What's so funny about that? BT literally does produce live on the fly...he can play a track over and over and make it sound quite different every time...
Wouldn't say Josh does this...I dunno what ableton live can do. |
