Have you seen the movie, Party Monster?
Forgive me if this thread has already been posted, but I would like to see what people thought of it.
Interesting to see how the scene has diverged from it's roots.
Good or bad thing? |

| The life those people lived disgusted me. I felt like vomitting after watching that movie. |

I enjoyed it as entertainment, but I found it a little disturbing... I wonder if that's what it was really like...? How did more of those people not DIE from O/D?
Some of it was pretty funny though. The truck party was hilarious.
It's worth watching, though, anyone who is in any way involved with this scene should see it, IMHO. |

I loved Marilyn Manson as Christina, haha! And the scene when they were looking for rocks on the floor and thought the rat took it..."Rat on the crack-attack", LOL! |

hopefully you mean the original one from several years back and not the crappy remake with Macaulay Culkin & Seth Green?
I've seen both...the original was interesting...and a bit disturbing in seeing how people's lives can spiral completely out of control. The remake was pretty lame.
That scene...seemed too focused on drugs...and the way some people talked, they participated out of a need to "belong" to something. IT seemed so superficial and hollow. I'd like to think our "scene" today, while less original, has a bit more substance to it. |

See? Funny as entertainment, pretty sick and pathetic in real life.
Interesting contrast. Has anyone read the book? Jennypie?
I wonder how close the movie was to the reality?
I have to admit, the movie left me feeling very odd. Some parts felt familiar, like it's things I had done almost. Very weird. And like I said, a little disturbing.
EDIT: I was not aware that there was an original... might be worth checking out.
And I agree, it does seem that we are focused a little more on the music and the people now. But don't kid yourself, ours is NOT the "rave" scene. Some people think so, but it's not. Good thing or bad? I don't know. |

I wasn't aware there was book (oh wait, written by his friend?), or an original movie. I did however catch A&E's American Justice special about Michael Alig a couple years ago. |

Then don't watch Requiem for a dream, or Spun, or any other movies involving drugs because they are always disturbing!
I watched this on Saturday night. It was ed up. McCauley Culkin as a big flaming queen didn't sit right with me, but it wasnt bad for a low budget film.
Especially because my hubby Dylan was in it. mmmmmmmmmmm. |

some info on the original:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0141716/
The original is more of a documentary. The book Disco Blood Bath was later written by James St. James and he did the screenplay on the remake too, I think?
The orginal was FAR more interesting and featured tons of original footage, interviews, etc. MUCH better than the remake. Macaulay couldn't recreate the "allure" that Alig himself possessed...seeing footage of Alig, you can see how people would eat that up. Macaulay, not exactly a brilliant actor, seemed almost boring in comparison.
Skipper...I dunno...Mac as a big flaming (drug addicted) queen...kinda worked for me...albeit in a weird, creepy way...not really believable in his forced "gayness", but his performance is so lacking in empotion and "realness" that he probably (and inadventently) captured some of the reality of being a part of such a faux, toxic lifestyle. |

I loved Requiem for a Dream. "ASS TO ASS! ASS TO ASS!"

| I'm not sure the idea here was "gay" so much... at one point on whatever talk show they are on, the announcer says something to the effect of... "Club Kids, no particular something, something else (can't rememeber) and no particular sexual preference."... I think i will check out the original and compare them. Stay tuned! |
