What would you recommend for a High School set?

I'm asking for a couple of opinions as to what I should play at a upcoming party for my HS's JROTC club. Apperantly they are planning to have a big bash soon, but until I hear from the main planners soon, I'm really not sure what genre they would want to hear. I'm probably going to have to play some Hip-Hop/Pop stuff, since this is basically a teen party... and I know for sure that I'll have to take a couple of requests.
Nothing is set in stone (the group is still working out a budget, so I don't even know if I'll have a decent deck to work with:eyespop: ). Any suggestions on what I should play between the hip-hop, or what would make a good transition to/from that genre, would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Mike |

| You're there to play what people want to hear, not introduce them to electronic music so I'd say stick with the Top 40/Hip-Hop garbage. |

Garbage it is, but I know plenty of local DJs that can play that crap. If I didn't care about the quality of the set, then I would have recommended one of those DJs to my friend. As it stands I want to do an enjoyable set that won't turn everyone off, but that can just give a little nudge per se towards electronica.
I understand that all of my requests are going to be "Nelly this, Eminem that", but I want to also show them that there is decent Dance music out there as well. It's really sad that some of these persons' only exposure to Dance has been Zombie Nation "Kernkraft 400" (great song, but not for someone who's never heard anything of the like).
Here's what I'm thinking of right now:
Utada Hikaru - Simple and Clean (PlanetB Remix 9)
4 Strings - Take Me Away (Into The Night)
DJ Sammy - Sunlight
Room 5 - Make Luv (maybe...)
Tomcraft - Lonliness
The Chemical Brothers - Get Yourself High (would need some mixing, but it could work)
Kylie Minogue - anything would work
So the idea is to get songs that are not too hardcore, but just enough pop to get some interest, and hopefully make some people aware of what's off the beaten path. That's my delusion anyway:rolleyes: |

So, any songs that you think would work well? I still haven't gotten word, but it seems that the party is going to end up being Top 40/Hip Hop. Here are a couple more songs that i think would work:
Daft Punk - One More Time
Basement Jaxx - Lucky Star, Red Alert
Darude - Sandstorm, Feel The Beat
Prodigy - Breathe, Smack My Bitch Up |

Yeah I'm sure THAT will be a surefire way to get them to like trance:rolleyes:
As Conk said, you're probably going to be there to play top40, so I would stick to that, especially if the people in charge of planning/paying for the event want you to play that. I mean if I hired a DJ under the agreement that he would play jpop, and he played Hungarian Polka, I'd be pretty damn pissed. |
