| quote: | - The official language is Portuguese (not Spanish)
- The capital is Brasília (not Rio de Janeiro, although it was the capital till 1960 or something)
- Shares common boundaries with every South American country except Chile and Ecuador
- More than half of the population is white (or look white, as miscigenation played a important whole here)
- It's got the largest Japanese colony overseas
- Brazilian cars not only use gas but also alcohol |
I knew all of those...and regarding the Catholic country thing, I thought it was Mexico because 80% of their population is Catholic, or at least that's what I've heard. I don't know how Brazil measures up though, both in terms of population and percentage-Catholic. |

It's because we've got far more people here:
Mexico -> 104,907,991 inhabitants, 89% of them being Catholic. (93,368,111 Catholic Mexicans).
Brazil -> 182,032,604 inhabitants, 80% of them being Catholic. (145,626,083 Catholic Brazilians).

It was an idea from the 80's. There was that crisis with oil and stuff so we had to find a way to produce a fuel without counting on imports. Thus, cars moved by alcohol were developed :)
In fact, I still don't know what the heck we use gas in cars here for... I guess it must be because of Petrobras :conf: |

Nay, although in certain cities like Salvador (and some parts of Rio) they're the majority, like Asians in some parts of São Paulo (there are so many of them) and native Americans in Amazon (despite of the fact most of them were killed a long time ago :(). |
