I'm a big trance fan but have never, ever listened to any of the famous GU discs (Global Underground). How good are they, and are they worth getting? Your opinions.

Its different than anything out there thats on cd. I see your from the US also and i think that some of the stuff here is too commercial. So commercial that u hear it on very popular radio stations. But you wont hear anything from GU on the radio because its actually quality music. I know as americans, we're behind in trance/deep house music but through GU cd's ive been updated on alot of great tracks, mixes etc. unless you have some kind of connections that u can get underground tracks

Global Undeground CD's are crap.
Unless u are into prog house like Sander Kleinenberg...or something like Digweed. Personally, I used to listen to that kinda music but then I stopped I like more progressive or uplifting stuff, Johan Gielen, PvD...

First off theres something out there for everyone and if someones gonna ask about GU ..Ill recommend any of the stuff they came out with and second..Your the first person that ive heard say that Digweed cd's are crap yet you like Pvd. They all go hand and hand Pvd,Digweed and Sasha. If u like one then you'll love em all on the otherhand it doesnt work the same with Paul Oakenfold..Man some people just hate his guts

Global Underground albums are GOOD... seriously though, if you're gonna buy one and you haven't got another albums from the series, have a listen to it in the shop!.. it's exactly what the name says, underground.. dark beats and nothing overly commercial.. i own 4 of em: 012 - Dave Seaman in Beunos Aires, 013 - Sasha in Ibiza, 016 - Dave Seaman in Capetown and 019 - John Digweed in LA... Dave Seaman's cds and Sasha's cd are amazing!.. progressive but often throwing to an uplifting track that'll leave you breathless (especially Sasha in Ibiza).. Digweed in LA, well... i KINDA regret buying this one, it was the first one i buying and i should have listened to it before hand... i dunno... it's just very progressive and if your going to listen to it, ya have to listen to the whole thing if you know what i mean?... instead i should have bought a different album in the series... but what im going to collect is the Dave Seaman albums, Sasha, Nick Warren and maybe Oakenfold and Emerson.. i dunno.. the Prototypes are okay and the Nu Breed's are progressive as well!..

basically listen to them in the shop before you buy, or else you could come out disappointed.. and if you only like uplifting trance and not dark more progressive (but often coming out uplifting) trance, forget it!!!!

the global underground series is top quality! i have sasha-ibiza, nick warren-budapest, john digweed-los angeles, darren emerson-singapore. all good but a different sound, definetly the type of albums that you gotta listen the whole way through. the prototype cds are good too(i like them better) like seb fontaine prototypes 1-4, (ealier ones better IMHO). also, there are some gu sampler albums that alot of people like (arrivals, departures, and destinations), maybe check out those to see if you like, they are cheap to buy as well. pm if you want some more details;)

I own a few of the Global Underground CD's, and have heard most of them, I have to say that I was dissapointed with most of them. It seems like they are just stuck on progressive trance and house, and if they are trying to be really "global" then they should expand their tastes beyond progressive. I do think the Danny Tenaglia-New York and Darren Emerson-Singapore and Sasha-Ibiza CD's are good listens, the rest are kinda lame... just my opinion though.

I only own one GU its #7 oakie did it

I know ill probably get attacked by all the oakie haters on this board:p but the first disc of it is one of my all time favorites. I used to just play it over and over could never get sick of it
Trance man
The GU series is top quality music..
If you like to get the more trancy cd's than I recommend to get one of these: Oakenfold at New York ,Sasha at Ibiza (alot of tracks there are real trance anthems today, like "Cass & Slide - Perception" and "BT - Mercury & Solance"), Dave Seamen at Cape Town (the 2nd cd is real pure trance with trax like "Ballroom - 4 PM" and "Highland - No Way Out")... if you like the darker, deep, slow stuff than get Digweed GU albums..

I personally like most GU cd's that come out. Maybe because its that I'm really into the prog house, but I think they're all quality and very well done. If you wanna get away from most the housey trance stuff, check out Tenaglia and Emerson....Thats also some good ..
And I just heard the next GU cd comin out is mixed by Deep Dish....Very much looking forward for this one =)

Phazon
Deep dish might be comin out under Nubreed Dave Seaman will probably do GU21 or GU22 (most likely GU21) which means Sasha would come out with his third GU album in the near future possibly GU 22

what do you mean "which means Sasha would come out with third GU album"... the GU series aint done on order or anything... they just come out with whatever the Boxed Boy's want to release (ie: whichever DJ they feel should do the next one)...

also, i was wondering... has anybody signed up to the Global Underground mailing list?... i mean the little postcard thing that comes with every release, im just curious if it's worth the effort signing up.
