I just burnt my Computer so i need a new PC .. so iam wondering if i sould sell my my virus c (on ebay 1200$)

Althou its makes great sounds ..aim wondering if i can just use vsts from now on. I do use 60% of VST sounds on my productions ..aim just wondering if when i do sell it.. i wont regret it ? tis may sound like a stupid tread but i resently got superwave and the presents on it all most matched my trance presets on my virus ..

Any virus users have any feed back?

virus C is great, i heard some samples of this synth and was amazed..

hardware has a bit of more quality than software, and more realistic feel in tweaking and making a sertain patch, which makes it more fun..

i do not have a virus, i just software user for now, but i hear many great tunes which are done by software only...so it all comes back to the producer, which must ask him/her self, can i do this with that or not...

it's hard to answer, if you can keep your virus, keep i say why not..if not vsts sure aint bad..

i do recommand vanguard, absynth2 and vazz and zeta in your collection..

Hi there. This is my first serious (not being a jackass :) post, so bear with me here.

I recently picked up a Virus C (tabletop, not rack or keys), and also recently returned it. I ordered it from Sam Ash and spent over two months waiting for it to ship off of backorder.

I had the unit for about 35 days or so, and returned it after that. I've been a big Roland guy since I got into the hobby (a little over two years ago). The Virus C is an excellent synth, and has some premium features that only the best VA or VST synths can match (saturation layer, dual filters, with the simulated Moog analog filter, etc.)

I couldn't reconcile $1500 worth of debt for a VA when a second rompler would offer me a lot more for what I do. (I have an XP-60 + Vintage Synth + Techno + Session boards). That having been said, I think you'll find most of the functionality you are looking for in software if you end up selling the unit.

I have no illusion of ever producing professionally--its just something that I enjoy doing. Before I picked up the Virus C, I tried a Roland MC-909 and returned it. After using the Virus C, and returning it as well, I went back to Guitar Center and picked up another 909.

The on-board waves, sampling, the sequencing (step/piano roll, live, and TR-909-style) and the two COSM multi-effects processors with global compressor and limiter made it worthwhile for me for slightly less than the Virus C cost me.

I've diddled around with some of the VSTs for a while, like the Novation V-station. I really liked this one, and it appears to offer most of the functionality of the Virus -- with one exception. The polyphony sucks, so you have to create multiple instances of the VST if you want (very) heavily layered sounds.

I don't really think you should be asking whether you should keep it on here. Not because it doesn't fit in the forums or any forum nazi like that.. It's just, you've worked with the synth for a period of time, and should know by now how it compares to soft synths, and whether you should sell it or not.

The Virus is the synth that almost ANYONE [who doesn't have one] on this forum would sell their soul for.. now that says something. If you don't feel that way, go ahead and sell it.

I just don't really get why you posted, it's not like people have to try to sell you on it.

keep it imo...

altho i have found another possible option for u ;) sell the c and get a b or kb and get a computer.

i still say keep it :D

comparing the superwave to a virus C is absolutely ridiculous. Dude, are you sure you got a virus c?? Either you have no idea how to use it or your deaf in one ear. You have events and a motu so it can't be sound quality thats the issue. If you want to sell your Virus then I don't think trance production is your forte, i'm sorry to say. The virus C is probably the best va synth ever constructed. The sound quality is out of this world, and it can make any sound you can think of , from warm pads to hard distorted leads. You have a great setup, and with your motu, virus c, and events you can make any trance track your heart desires. Guys like Gareth Emery, Dreas, Phynn, to name a few have a similiar setup to yours and they rock out amazing tunes.

I have used software for almost a year, and I just recently began building my studio. I just bought a nordlead 3 which in my opinion is just as good as maybe even better at certain things like pads than the virus. The synth has no onboard effects and it sounds so freakin good that sometimes i just stop playing and laugh cause i'm in total disbelief at what i'm hearing. And im listening through 10 dollar earplugs, so imagine when i get some event monitors.

Comparing superwave to a virus is like comparing a dodge neon to a ferrari. Push the gas pedal on a ferrari and turn the filter knob on the virus and hear that baby roar. Superwave sounds like a fart, and is a horrible synth.

Keep your Virus C anmd be responsible with it and use it the way it' was meant to be used and you will have no regrets.

I agree about the superwave being crap.
The only software that i know of that is as good (and better in a lot of ways) than hardware is reaktor. Building decent synths in reaktor isnt exactly easy tho, but there are millions made by people to dl anyway. I would rather know reaktor inside out than have a virus.

reaktor is so hard...never figured it out..

It's not really about how good the Virus, or for that matter any other synth is. It's about how and if you are using it.

You must ask yourself the question. Do you use the synth?

If yes, do you like it? If you don't like it, go to "if no" :D
If no, why? Don't you like the sounds, is it too difficult to program. Doesn't it fit your normal workflow.
If the latter reasons apply, just ask yourself the question if you are willing to do the effort to see if you can use it better to your liking.

It's true that the preset may sound good on the virus, but in no means they show the power of the beast. The virus is more of a synth you need to really delve into to get results. If you are not willing to do the effort, then indeed it's not for you (don't believe all the "it's a super synth because all the major producers use it" crap. It's a musical instrument, so it's subject to personal preference also). I'd suggest, maybe take a week just fiddling with the Virus to see what you can come up with. If a the end of that time you still don't see a future for the Virus in your productions, the answer is clear.

I must agree with tranceenerg69 on his post. When I got my virus c fiew months ago I was suprized how great it sounds compared to the software. Not that I never had any hardware before, but this unit is just amazing. i heard it before in a store and it didn't sound as good as it sounded at home. I also make music just for a hobby, and the virus is a little more complicated than the soft synths around.. But You get great resaults. Have you tried the sound driver included with the virus, It's so easy to make new sounds using that stuff, it's like basically having a soft synth interface on your screen but you're controling the hardware. I use it all the time to weak sounds.. plus the sound libaby for the virus is nice, you get not only trance sounds but anything alse you wont. I know that If I had to sell my gear casue Virus would be the last piece to go, and probably i woudn't sell it than... I would thing of some other way to get money.. I love it so much..

hey cheggy
Well if you need to sell the virus to get the money for a computer, then you gotta do what you gotta do. You can't make music without the computer but you can without the virus.
Tom_cowan
I sold mine, get vaz, its just as good.
