Why I hate Roll Up The Rim

I never win. Ever. And I'm not talking about the pickup truck or the Plasma TV or the $1000 in cash here, I'm talking about a ing free coffee or muffin or even a ing donut here. Look, the odds of winning are 1 in 9, statistically independent trials right? So the probability of losing:

a) 10 times in a row: (0.89)^10 = 31%
b) 20 times in a row: (0.89)^20 = 9.5%
c) 30 times in a row: (0.89)^30 = 2.9%
d) 50 times in a row: (0.89)^50 = 0.3%

Now I know I tend to run a little low in the luck department, but losing 50 times in a row has to be a record. I mean we're talking miraculous bad luck here, 0.3% is the equivalent probability of getting eaten by cannibals. Less than 3 people in every 1000 have this kind of bad luck. And to top it off, it's happened 2 years in a row! So the probability of this happening twice is actually (0.89)^100 = 7.7e-6 or .00077%. I think that's right up there with winning the lottery or getting struck by lightning.

Does anyone else think that these have to be rigged? I mean honestly, what's to stop those Timmy's employees from rolling up all the rims themselves in the back room and rolling back down all the ones that aren't winners? Is there some system in place to prevent them from doing this?

you Tim Horton, if I ever win one of your big prizes I'll be selling it off and using the money to sue your conniving ass.

Hahah! I know you're gonna hate me for saying this, but here goes. I never buy coffee at Tim's, and always go to Starbucks or Second Cup. But when i was in Waterloo a few weeks ago, that's all they had. So i was standing by my car outside, windows down, volume up, sipping on my coffee and watching the sky. An old man walked by and told me to check the cup in case i won something. And i did. Unfortunately, i don't eat donuts so i had to give it away. Moral of the story is.. uh... ignore the old men? I dunno.

I won a donut. Do you want it?

(or wait, can I trade it in for 5 timbits instead? I don't like donuts, but the timbits rock. Sour cream all the way!)
