Well I decided to watch that DJ Tiesto- A Day At The Office video and I was very dissapointed. They showed maybe 5 minutes of him in his studio where he quotes as saying " my favorite place in the building" He says he prepares his mixes, his radio sets, etc.. but doesn't say he produces his music here. He just says "this is my studio" kinda like showing it off. From what i can make out, he had a Nord modular g2, a ddrum4, a waldorf mirco Q, the orange Q, an alesis andromeda, supernova 1 or 2, the rest i couldnt make out. 2 monitors, mixing board, and krk v8 monitors probably with a sub underneath. he then does what this movie does so well, take you on a tiesto ego trip like no other. he opens up some card that some chick wrote to him sitting in front of his mixing desk, saying how she loved his set. Then you see some ferry corsten look alike showing him some track he's working on. It seems he doesn't write his track,as he is more interested with th new vinyls he got in his mailbox and he quotes as that being "the best part of his day". for me listening to a track you worked so hard on for weeks is the best part of the day. He doesn't say so or give credit anywhere in the film to his engineer /programmer who produces his tracks, other than maybe in the closing credits in small fine print.

The rest of the movie is an absolute bonbardment of "Tiesto rules!, tiesto is god!, tiesto is so hot!, tiesto is the best dj ever! bla bla bla this movie was more like a promotion than a documentary. I dont wanna hear some chicks and gay dudes telling me that tiesto is hot or hes the best ever. I wanna know whats gooing on in his mind, where he gets his inspiration, why he picks his tracks, etc.. Not that limos pick him up and drive him to fancy motels. Damn this guy really sold out hardcore . damn at least don't make it so obvious, lie! for God sakes.

The guy plays vinyls and he hailed as a good. Some dummy in the movie talks about how great he is , how his music. HIS? he plays other peoples music and the tracks that have his name on it arent even made by him, they just get the tiesto stamp of approval. This makes tranceaddicts look like mindless dummies, and i think we're smarter than that. this was an insult to me bigtime, what a joke.

Best post ever - 100% agreed. That's why I despise Tiesto... He should have talked to Oakie about plumeting down from Mt. Olympus. The moment Oakie started talking about his nutritionist, maseuse, etc - people in UK just turned away from him. So, he moved to US where people didn't know what a wanker he is. I got no problem with DJ making money but don't become so self-centered.

I saw Tiesto at Nation in DC - he was a complete prick. Someone passed a poster for him to sign, he crumpled it up and threw it back into the crowd. I am surprised he didn't get booed.

You're absolutely right in your statement:

- I was just thinking about that few days ago. It is sad... Unless you're hammered out of your brain on pills. At that point you can even put me up in a DJ booth and have these e-heads going wild. That's what's sad about the trance now. As I look at my productions I am ashamed that many people don't even go for appreciation of the music - they go for an accompanyment for their drug trip.

that's just my silly $0.02 of opinion.

I totally agree dude, man but that video made me sick to my stomach. Pill poping burnouts screaming Tiesto!! Forever!!! like you said, they could put DJ Gollum from Lord of the rings up there and the crowd would be holding up rings and jumping up and down screaming, gollum!! my precious!!! so sad. If your a fan and you watch this video and your still a fan, then your lost. I wouldn't even look in his general direction if I walked by him on the street. I saw him in 2001, and the guy signed like 100 flyers and tshirts. Now he rips them up, that's really cruel. To bad those ravers are so high on E and Coke to even notice that lack of respect for his fans. I would of spit in his face if he did that.

Used to like his work, and I still do, but only pre-2001 stuff. These past 2 years it seems that he sees himself as superior to all other DJs...as if he's somehow magically ascended into another level. If I ever get big (and that's a big if) I'm never going to let my ego do my thinking.

Oh yeah, it's been a while since I saw it, but I think I remember this correctly. The scene where he's supposed to be in Australia...if you look at the crowd there's some people there that were in line at Area 2 at L.A. to get their stuff signed. I may be wrong, but that's what I remember.

Wow CynepMeH jealousy doesnt come close! :eyes: I cant wait till I have paid off my car then finally I can buy some hardware. The only thing that scares me with your setup is spending so long playing with each synth I would never get anything done! :) :D My only question - why do you have Nuendo and SX and Sonar? Surely they all achieve the same thing?

Re: Tiesto - I have definately preffered Armin for a while now even though they are very similar. I think Armin is less arrogant and is working harder to get where he is. Tiesto has reached the height of his profession and he is doing what a lot of people would probably do - let it go to their head. I disagree that he doesn't produce his own records though, maybe if only since he was a big name that he started producing then it would be extremely suspicious, but he has had records out for years. I have to say though that if I saw him do that to a poster, I would change my opinion of him sharpish.

People on drugs are going to dance to whatever. The only differance is, knowing Tiesto is on the decks than some other lesser known DJ is that your mind will be ready for a good night, you will be buzzed ready for him. Very hard to explain but anyone who has 'been there' will know what I'm on about. Drugs are synonomous with dance music, and very often, especially at the harder clubs, the night is more about how many pills / how much ket / how much coke can you cane in one night/weekend than who's playing what or being there for the love of the music.

Cubase hasn't been too stable lately, so I decided to try out Sonar which works nicely but doesn't have some of the options that Cubase does. Nuendo gives you little bit more options than 2 combined - for example surround sound but since I don't have a surround sound setup I don't bother too much with it. Plus it's a bit more involved than Cubase. Basically, some things are easier done in each and I do certain things in certain app. But most of my time is spent in SX. I'll probably sell Nuendo and Sonar soon - as I get little use out of them.

You're absolutely right - you get proportionally less done the more stuff you have. It's hard to focus when you have so many tweaks at your finger tips. My favorite combination is Access virus, Andromeda and FM7. This is my "get away from it all" ticket - I just load up pads in each and chill for hours - comming up with great ideas, none of which are being recorded (obviously  ) coz' I get too carried away with tweaking.
