i'm relatively new to trance. i've liked it a lot for a while but recently became addicted after going to ibiza this summer. i've found several of oakenfold's EM's from '99 and love them. i know people say he's not what he once was and all... but i'd like to know what you think of these essential mixes. my favorite is the one from Space, Ibiza. basically i was listening to it all the time in ibiza and it brings back some ridiculous memories. what are your thoughts on the best of those mixes and any ideas on what i should try moving on to??? i love the new Tiesto DVD as well. thanks a lot in advance. also, just bought tickets to the PVD show in chicago 4/17 -- very excited.

I got his mixes from Australia (1-17-99),Cuba (2-21-99),and Ibiza (7-25-99).This is Oakenfold at his finest. He was at the top of his game.My personal favorite is the Ibiza set.If he was still playing cutting edge NEW trance he would be the number one dj in the world. He got a big head apparently but enough about that.

These Oakenfold Essential Mix tour sets are great for cruising on the highway or heading down to the beach.I live in New England and we've had a tough winter so I am quite ready for the summer and these sets get me in the summer mood:happy2:

If neone has anymore of these essential mixes that they wanna trade on instant messenger,im me on screenname GuBostonDubs.I can't use soulseek because my schools firewall blocks it but I can trade Via Aim

hehe anyone says that didn't love that '99 world tour is lieing, quintessentially the highest point in oakenfold's shortlived awesome career imo. i loved the havana and miami sets about the same.

Oakey played a huge part in me wanting to be a Dj.
It was the EMs of China and Havana that provided huge inspiration for me.
Imo once a legend always a legend.....no matter what he did from then on or what peeps say.

Well I would hope that people would atleast appreciate his amazing past as a DJ, but I understand why people don't like him now.:toothless

My favorite is the Home @ Space in Ibiza mix... All of the EM World Tour sets were amazing... they got me into trance as well. Like many others have said... Have to respect Oakey for what he did to trance!

As far as what you should be listening to now...Hmm, that's a good question. I am not very up to date on the live sets but last summers essential mix from Amnesia with Tiesto and Oakenfold was amazing! Tiesto in Concert DVD is great, as you mentioned... Check out Armin Van Buuren's "A State of Trance" weekly radio show on Thursdays... they are pretty good as well!

But it... keep listening to those 99 eseential mixes! :D

Gatecrasher is by far my favorite. i also like his set from ibiza, and the liverpool university set that starts out with blacklight - daydream.
