heres some advice from when I got my camera last year..
-Do your research! if you don't know much about the cam u want your gunna get screwed
-Find your price range
-extras! Cards, Nickle Metal Hydrate Batteries and a Charger, warrenty, all this can build up pretty quickly
-finally shop around, the less anxious you are and more informed you are about the camera you want, the more pleased you will be with your purchase.
check out http://dpreview.com/ they have an option where you can compare models and read user reviews, this was extremely helpful to me
the best shops to get a digital camera are camera stores not tech shops, just be careful! places like Blacks has thier cameras priced crazily, but Futureshop often sells them cheap because they get some end of lines or unique models
I got mine at Japan Camera at the Eaton's Centre, I have some friends who work there, so I got everything pretty much at cost :) |

definitely.. check out the camera shops like Aden Camera and such near Yonge and Dundas, there priced usually $50-100 less then the sticker price inside a retail store like blacks AND if your haggle savvy (of which i'm not =\) You can usually get them to drop the price down even more.
Its all about knowing which camera you want though, if you don't your gonna get coerced into buying something the salesguy wants you to buy.
www.dpreview.com as brindor said, is the best site out there for reviews and comparisons. def check it out. |

I work in a photo lab and my manager is a professional photographer, this is what he recommended for be when buying a camera under 1000 bucks,
get something 5.0 MP
go with a big name comany
Canon makes the best processors currently for cameras
and nikon makes the best lenses
but he guided me into the canon direction
it depends on how much options you want in your camera, do you want it to be just fully automatic or automatic with a bunch of manual options, think about that and do your research...
Don't get a camera with a buch of Digital Zoom, the picture will look great when looking @ it on the screen but when you print it/ develope it it looks like , get more opical zoom rather than digital zoom, but that might be costly |
