how long for beatmatching (pg. 2)

a few times I just move the pitch slider to somewhere wehre I think it should be, and I match beats even before the record is on the platter.

beatmatching time : -2 mins 38 secs.

true story actually.

Within 2 months of practice: less than two minutes to roughly synchronize :o

After 6 months of practice: 1m30s to synch nicely

After 10 months: about 40 seconds for perfect synch ;)

12 months past, about 2 months after introducing the "pitch bend" technique (you can search this forum for it): 10-15 seconds for perfect synch :D

wow... we have a bunch of superstar djs here. perfect beatmatching after a couple days.....

hehe guess I'm a slow learner...

It's been about 8 months [practicing 2-3 hours a week] now since I first got my decks, and I am only begining to get the hang of it!

anyone can match a beat up quick, but maybe it took them a little longer to learn the phrasing...

hmm define your perfect match? perfect match so that tunes will go in sync for 5 minutes straight? or a perfect match so that you'll have to correct every now and then.. Every bigname dj has to correct the beats sometime. Just most of the time you won't even recognize they're going very slightly off and then back again..

anyway back to the topic: speed of the match really depends on records.. wether they're 33/45 rpm, slip very vell or are kinda heavy.. wether the compression is clean or not.. Sometimes it takes as little as 10 seconds.. sometimes up to 2 minutes (and Im not bragging that I can do a *PERFECT* match everytime... Pretty often I have to correct the beats with the pitchslider while going live..)

Nobody ever does a perfect match all the way through unless they play records with the exact same BPM with the pitch quartz-locked at 0%.

Don't stop making an effort to improving your beatmatching -- there's always room for improvement, no matter how long you've been doing it.

I disagree. I have a few records that are not the same bpm's and with my tecks they'll lock for three minute mixes with no ajustments (never really tried any longer). My stantons won't though.
soundwave
your right though you can always inprove

Yeah i agree .. i thinks bull .. a month or 2 ok thats reasonable but not a few days or you have been mixing before, or you come from alienplanet

Also turn off bpm counters babies

yer load of noncence unless your idea of beatmatching is to trainwreck!

personaly took me about 4-6 months on a set of belt drives. belt drives tought me not to be afraid to touch the record like ive seen alot of people be. i also started with phasing. i knew about phasing before i could beetmatch. heheh

Now I know, this forum should stick to the positive, I just wanted to take a moment to laugh at all the people who can perfectly beatmatch every song in a mix within 15 seconds.
There is no way to perfectly beatmatch a song in 15 seconds. There are always minor adjustments to make. Some you can't even detect until 30-45 seconds into the song. If it takes you 15 seconds for a perfect beatmatch then your idea of a perfect beatmatch will stay in sync for 20-30 seconds at the most. If you don't make any adjustments after that then you are going to be trainwrecking a good transistion (unless of course you are just using the crossfader to switch between records and only making a 15-20 second transistion between songs).
And thats my thoughts on the issue....
