You can listen to the album once, and realize there's not much on it that's truly meant to dance too. Hell, Markus speeds up Somewhere quite a bit when he plays it in a club just to make it danceable (I prefer it sped up, BTW...)
Although it's a mix CD, it sorta has more of a tune to a fully produced CD from a great EDM producer...because most of the recent fully produced albums I have listened too simply don't have much danceable stuff on it...a couple of things, but still not much. Usually the tracks on these albums that are played in clubs are a mixed a bit differently and sped up. Please note I am not saying all albums are like this, but I do see the majority as being like this. |

| This is a chill compilation which really expresses markuz schulz's true passion for music. Awesome track selection. DaveT i agree some of these would sound better sped up. I myself play somewhere quite a bit faster. When catagorising this album, i have my albums/sets that i go off to and my albums and sets that i can chill to and do work too. Like right now i've just completed the most uni work i've done at home this semester whilst listenin to this album hahahahaha. |

ROFL. I should definitely copyright it.
Yeah, I thought that up last Saturday when I was seeing G&D in New York. It had me thinking for a while about how they've helped develop this weird take in combining prog and trance. And I got really confused, because so many of these tracks did not make me move and I was feeling nothing. Then I went to see Danny Howells right away and whoa what a difference.
I'm usually no G & D or Markus hater, I actually hyped G & D ever since early 2002 and I still love some of their productions. But I don't know....McProg it is. ;) |
YaleTrance,
I was at that show too... I was pretty disappointed. I just stood on the 2nd floor leaning over the banister all night... didn't really catch a dance vibe. :( My friend and I left around 3, and apparently like 2 songs after we left they dropped a crapload of classics! I was so pissed when I found that out!
I bet Howells was amazing... too bad we didn't make it over there (that was his last marathon set, right?).
-Keith
PS. Why McProg? I get the Prog part... what is the Mc part for? |

you guys are right , its not a "dance your ass off" cd , but certainly a great spring/summer collection , to listen to on the beach or in the car.
I'm still in love :eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop: :eyespop:   |

It's awsome. As mentioned before, not to dance on but just to relax with.
Start the evening or end it with this cd cause imo it's made perfectly for that ! :)
Or at a beach, even better, not that loud basses that can annoy people that fast :) |

You're not the only one.
I just heard the CD. I'm sorry, but i really don't like this at all. Can you say McProg? Some of the tunes are nice, but most sound to me like they're barely danceable. This contemporary melodic prog thing has a certain kitsch that you have to work around to make it work, like Holden brilliantly did in Balance 005 or what Sasha does whenever he gets his melodic side going. But Markus unfortunately is like the dance music dj version of Yanni. Too many souless generic new age melodies with a half-hearted intent to create the uplifting buildup-breakdown structure..... it simply doesn't work. just my 2 cents... |
It's not all about dancing like a maniac. If it's too epic everyone complains that it overused and not really "trance", if it's not enough according to the masses then it is not danceable. In my opinion, the sound that Gabriel and Dresden/Markus Schulz are famous for are the most intelligent of the whole trance/progressive scene. The tunes are so moving it's not necessarily for rocking out but more for moving your shoulders and appreciating the subtleties. A year ago I would have never found myself loving the slower slide of EDM but this stuff is quite sensual and enchanting.(Elevation - Clear Blue OMIGOD!!!!) |

Cos a lot of his fans sit at home and listen to all his sets with no chance of seeing him live. |

is there a problem with that? Isn't that what music is for...to listen to?
Markus Schulz is being a pioneer IMO. I think his wife made this quote...
| quote: | Markus Schulz is very unique.
He kinda introduces alot of tranceheads to the darker trance/ progressive side, and at the same time he reminds the prog heads why they used to love trance. |
If you want those sick underground tunes, then go listen to Danny Howells. If you want your epic trancers, then go listen to Armin Van Buuren. Feel like something inbetween? Markus Schulz...
Just depends on your mood I guess? |
