Thats where subgenres come in. You could have for instance:
DNB
- Jungle
- Atmospheric DNB
- Jazzy DNB
- Funky DNB
- Etc. |

| yes but the purists argue that jungle is different and not under dnb but I see your point. |

First, my guide is not going to be better than Ishkur's because of one little detail: our guides will focus the music in completely different ways. His guide is a very-well made critic on the genres as a whole. I, on the other hand, I'm trying to do something more "educational" but with a little humour every now and then so it doesn't sound too boring.
Also, I'll look for the balance between simplifying and giving details. I'm not gonna list every genre out there, as some are important only for elitists; however, I shall try to explore the largest possible amount of different sounds, so readers would know what's going on in the evolution of electronic dance music as a whole.
By the way, peacemakes: if you want to list just the genres...
Pre-disco edm
ambient
noise
disco
house
techno
trance
psy-trance/goa
hardcore
d'n'b
industrial
breaks (hip hop included)
... see, there's a lot more to explore.
Obviously, if I break this down and list just 5 sub-genres of each genre, I would have 60 different sub-genres ;) |

Hey I like all electronic so Im not to worried about what it is exactally but i will say that in that guide I have read it a few times i agree with some stuff but the main thing I do agree with is the 7 SUB genres of electronic:
-HOUSE
-TRANCE
-TECHNO
-BREAKBEAT
-JUNGLE
-HARDCORE
-DOWNTEMPO
Each have a different sound to the music and revolve around anything we listen to as electronic fans mix then together and you can have sub genres and such or add to then different flare but I believe that those 7 are still the basics.Sure there is a list of yes 50++ sub genres but I think if you need a genere for something pick on of those that stands out to you most in the song your listening to, Im sure you'll be save with that and Im sure it with save time trying to draw it out with 2 or more different combos of music.
Just my opinion :D:D:D |

You're right, theres more that I overlooked, but I'm just talking about what the majority of folks on this board listen to. However I wouldnt consider hip hop as a part of breaks. True, they started out on the same tip, but then in the same fashion you'd have to call everything you listed merely as techno or disco, you see? I would say modern day hip hop is its own genre; you speak of the old school breakdancing in dimly-lit, abondoned warehouses populated by thirty or so b-boys. |

I said that I would include breaks and jungle as one genre, because, unlike other forms of EDM, they don't have a 4/4 beat. It is a perfectly reasonable argument. If you don't agree with it, that's fine. Instead, you are making personal attacks. Hope you are proud of yourself.
I don't intend to get into a lengthy discussion here, so I bid farewell to this thread. |

Art gallery yes
ballet yes

actually i never said it was a joke, i said the amazing thing is that you were being serious. if it was a joke, then it would be funny, but you were being serious and that's why it classifies as the most arrogant statement ever ;) |

People, please don't fight!
It's obvious if there was an easy answer we would have arrived at a rational conclusion by now. But like interpreting the Bible, it's not.
NO PERSONAL ATTACKS, that just ruins what should be a polite discussion and gets people mad over petty things. Do something nice, help an old lady cross the street, teach a young lad or lass how to beatmix!
Thank you. :D |

tta: even the most educated and cultured people I know don't talk like you do. People who talk much usually don't know much. They are just trying to look like they do ;)
btw. what have ballet or art gallery have to do with this topic? Shall we all start listing what we know or are good at?
What you said was so ridiculous ! :stongue: |
