do you know how your ears work?
Vibrations from matter go into your ear and move you ear drum, which causes pressure changes in you cochlea at a certain frequency.
if there is no matter to vibrate your ear drum what are you going to hear? once there are vibrating george foreman....I mean, vibrating matter around your ear...granted it is vibrating at a detectable frequency...you can hear. it. |

What I'm saying is the sound generated by those events will not be heard without a medium through which they can pass. Space is a vaccuum - it has no medium for the compressions and rarefactions to even exist.
Well, barring the lone Hydrogen or Helium atom, but there simply aren't enough to even consider sending sound waves through space. |

no, you need matter to transfer sound waves. Sound is just vibrating particles. there are for all practical purposes none in space (there are but they are really spread out). so anything that produces sound on earth would not in space since there are no particles to vibrate. even between teh small space between your headphones and your ear. |
