Metallic Sound Is Heard by Space Crew

By MARCIA DUNN, AP Aerospace Writer

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. - The two men aboard the international space station heard a strange metallic sound again Friday, four months after being startled by it the first time.

Cosmonaut Alexander Kaleri was talking to flight controllers in Moscow when he heard a loud drumlike noise coming from the instrument panel of the station's Russian-built living quarters.

Kaleri and astronaut Michael Foale first heard the mystery noise — described as a flapping sheet of metal — back in late November. Neither the crewmen nor flight controllers were ever able to identify the sound, although engineers suspected space junk may have damaged something on the exterior.

Answer is too obvious. Aliens cruising by playing Trance to the Max with the woofers pushing!

Lol!

Don't think so. 500W has to go somewhere...
What's the point of listening stations on Earth then as well.

Lol!

space lacks matter . .
hecnce no molucles to create sound waves

unless the aliens strapped a couple of ty computer speakers to the hull

No, they strapped some futuristic 500W speakers to the hull. And even have some low rider effects on their spacecraft. Nice undercarriage lighting too.

500w speakers wouldn't just sound like metal fappin, it would tear the hull apart homie. hence why i said ty comp speakers, because for one, they have sound, and for two, you can never make out what they are playing, hence why they couldn't tell what it was, so they called it a drumming noise, which is about all you can make out on the speaks anyways.

yeah i also heard about those new soviet spacecrafts, with the airbags and the ground fx. killer that they finally gut up to speed with the new fad.

That's laughable. So you're saying when I cruise around space in my lowrider with ground effects and 500W amp blasting power in my speakers that I'm silent? Get real. It's not like a tree falling in the forest with no one to hear it. We have folks hovering around up there in a MIR (reckon sex life sux up there too). How do you explain the empty beer can space debris hitting the MIR as well?

Lol!

you know that sound is the result of air molecules bumping into each other right......

you would hear it inside the craft where there is air....outside....there is no air molecules....therefore no sound transmission.

omg tis true.

Sound, much like other waves, needs a medium in which it can travel. Sounds are really just compressions and rarefactions of air. Space lacks this air - therefore yes, you would be silent.
