i remember some dumbass kid in my world civ. class say STFU to somebody. everybody just looked at him with funny faces, and the teacher was about to laugh, then somebody said "sit the down!". he still didnt realize his stupidity, as ( i think he was seriously has a mental disorder or something) he said "what, i dont want to get in trouble!" promptly somebody threw a big ass paper ball at his head with the effect of some people saying "shut the up and sit your ass down.", and others laughing until tears came out of their eyes. ide say about 5 sheets of paper wrapped into one ball.
one of the funniest moments ive had in school. the little sat down and the teacher took back control, didnt want anybody (poking an eye out)...:stongue: :stongue: |

it was blizzard entertainment that made this term famous when in the early days of warcraft II, if the computer opponent beat you, a message reading something along the lines of "you were pwned by the computer" would be displayed.
not done intentionally of course. it was a typo that has long been fixed but the kiddies who did see it started to use it and as we all know today, it caught on like wildfire.

One of my housemates always says 'LOL', but not seriously. He just says it to take the piss, because it sounds so ridiculous.

A friend of mine and I have picked up "W. T. F., mate?" (wtf spelled out), usually pronounced in an Aussie accent, after seeing a hilarious flash animation about nuclear weapons and a world war on some site...possibly ebaumsworld? It was posted here a while back I think.
We also have this ongoing joke where we'll say "L. O. L." (as in spelling it out) after something very funny because we used to watch ER religiously and someone on the show mentioned "loss of limb," possibly when the dude got squished by the helicopter. And me, always giving acronyms to strange phrases I hear in the most random of places, found that to be abbreviated as 'LOL'. So we associate it with extreme laughter, thus causing loss of limbs (perhaps ass, as in LMAO, even though the ass isn't a limb, but who the hell cares). ;)
Other times we say "chuckles", as we once made fun of closed captioning for putting "[chuckles]" on the screen.
In all honestly, we don't drink excessively. We're just not uptight about humor. ;) Also, a good bit of us are rather cynical about the smallest things.
