I just finished watching The Big Beach Boutique, I've watched it before, but its been awhile so decided to again, and all I gotta say is, WTF is up with his DJing in it, it has to be some of THE WORST DJing I have ever heard, I have heard DJs that have only been spinning 3 months lay better mixes than what Slim does in this dvd.
Anybody know why he was so bad?, I know hes not actually that crap, so I'm guessing it might be something else, because it was like he wasn't even mixing, he would just quickly crossfade to the next track, kinda like if you have a cd on, and before the track your listening to ends, you press next and the next ong kicks in, he was DJing exactly like that.
I'm not trying to completey knock the guy, I ain't a complete pro at DJing, but dam...dam dam dam....WTF was he doing in that dvd?????:conf: :conf: :conf: |

| Fatboy Slim proves better than no other DJ that tune selection is far more important that mixing ability. If you get the chance, go and see him live. I’m not really into all of the tunes he spins, but the party atmosphere he creates is what it’s all about. |

of course tune selection is important but why couldnt he mix *and* select good tunage? or is there a reason in this too? |

because he is a very party DJ who plays what he knoes will rock a crowd, as opposed to making a big entrance to your set with a couple of anthems.. then go deep for an hour building up as you go along.. then start to drop the big tunes for the finalé that get the crowd rocking again ... which is what im sure most trance DJ's do. |

malek is right, rediculously expensive (I've heard anywhere from 50-100K per gig)
Fatboyslim is not doing any gigs right now because he is finishing his next album. The beach event is cancelled this year due to transportation fears. |

and for that reason he is not allowed to mix good?
actually Im not trying to start a flame here since I havent seen the footage Prodigy Child is talking about. Its just in my opinion the ability to choose right tracks at the right time and the ability to mix them smoothly go hand in hand.. Ok maybe choosing the right tracks is more important but still thats not an excuse |

Yea track selection is a big part, but so is making the tracks flow together really well.
The tracks he uses in the dvd are good, and they COULD have a good flow to them, but what he was doing with the tracks WAS like he wasn't mixing, he used to DJ (dunno if he still does) at the Big Beat Boutique before he became big, so I'm sure he can DJ otherwise he wouldn't of had a residencey there.
I know what some people mean about he makes a good atmosphere, he looks like hes having loads of fun on the dvd and the crowd does to, but all because hes a big known DJ and can pick the tracks well, doesn't mean he can lack in mixing skills, but thats just my opinion.
Hes a good producer though, hes made some awesome tracks. |

Bal en Blanc wanted him but the asking price was just too much...
imagine, 12000 people paying 85$ each + other revenus isn't enough to get Fat Boy Slim... (ok PVD, AVB, Deep Dish and Rauhofer are there too... ) |

+ Having people OD in a conference hall instead of on a beach wouldn't be as dramatic ...
oh wait that was very poor taste from me making reference to Norman playing in brighton beach to a crowd of 100's of thousands ( supposedly ) and having some people die.
Don't book him :p |
