Best city to live in the UK (pg. 3)

I think the main point however is that unless you have already got a job in a certain city, you really have to go to either London, Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds. They are the only cities in England where you can realistically hope of getting a job reasonably quicklu that will pay alright and you might enjoy.

1. London
2. Brighton
3. Manchester
4. Birmingham

London is obviously where its at, i mean, seriously, the rest of the UK is just to keep the sea out of London.

Brighton is pretty nice. You can do the trip to London in a little over an hour, and its got nothing at all to do with Virgin Trains, which means you'll get a seat and it won't cost u £60, but its a bit more pikey.

Manchester is a hugely developing city as far as i can tell, it seems that a lot of its issues are being addressed positively and there is a bit of a higher clique developing up there to get people talking about the city more.

Birmingham. I don't think i need to say anything about Birmingham. I've been there, several times. Well, a ok i'll say a bit. Everyne takes the piss out of the Brummie accent, for good reason, but wot most people forget is that even before anyone in Birmingham has opened their mouths, you already know where the exit is.

Yes expensive but you earn allot more down here so it equals out nicely. This place is truely the place to be, i've lived in many different cities and nothing comes close to the Big L aside from Manc.

2. Manchester
Grew up there, good nightlife, feels allot like London's little sister with regards to the culture mix and city growth on the up.

My honest opinion is this; if i was from another country planning on visiting/living in the UK i wouldn't consider anywhere but the above to cities. Not cause i hate the others such as Bristol or Brum but mainly as they seem to offer more than the rest.

Ive found that too(hence why im moving there). I grew up in London and then in the suburbs just outside, and Ive never found anywhere that comes close, except for Manchester.

But its all down to personal taste.

i'd put brum alongside manchester i love broad street in brum but deansgate lock in the summer is class too,,,canal street is cool aswell as long as youre a bit open minded and not homophobic.....but overall brum has got more and better clubs....................london still rules though.....

hmmm, see that is exactly the london attitude that i dont like. while it may be true that london is a better city to live in, its definatly not the only city worth considering. i for one wouldnt want to live down there.

My choices would be :

1. Manchester
2. Birmingham
3. Newcastle
4. Sheffield
5. Leeds

wot can i say. im a northern person ;)

Just being in London for 4 days was enough to make me go broke. Other then london hurting the wallet I thought it was a great city.

I'll be back!

the night life in london is unparalled

last weekend I had the choice of no less than 6 huge nights out (oakey, lawler, sander k, emerson, armin, felix d h)

trust me wherever you go it wont be anywhere near as good

london doesn't make you broke

yes generally if you buy a can of coke from oxford circus its gonna cost you £1, but that just for the dumb tourists.

The wages are higher so the cost of living is higher, but that doesnt mean you cant find yourself a very nice home at a cheap rate and be able to save. Hell i'm not on the best wage in london but i'm saving about £500 a month, and that is loads. And on top of that i do go out about twice a month, and go out usually a couple of times a weeknight (movies a few drinks), picnics at weekends etc. It all about how you manage your money.

London is like no other place in the UK, i do suggest the other cities for a more british orientation, on a smaler scale but by no means a lesser one. But London all the way, just remember it will take you years to fit in all the sights and sounds not a long weekend.

London, I come from South Africa originally, but I LOVE IT here!!

I've visited a couple of other cities (still wanna see brighton n bristol), but i found most of em pretty boring tbh.

plus the weather north of london gets steadily colder :nervous:

As london goes, i can survive comfortably on a lower than average salary, transport is a breeze :D, plenty of cultures (not just british) and less of that unfortunate gene that you get up north that makes a fair few ppl really odd looking (not to say all northerners are odd looking, but more than not imo)

*runs and hides* :p
