All Vocal CD

I know, it sounds lame. But.... I have had so many requests by girls who like trance, but love to sing along to it. I thought it wasn't going to be that big of a deal to throw an all vocal mix together. What I have discovered is that the lead in and lead outs on the songs are usually so short that it makes smooth mixing without overlapping vocals (which sounds like crap) nearly impossible. Does anyone have any good ideas on how to overcome this? I don't want to use remixes of the songs that have taken the vocals out and merely just sampled them here and there....
Is there some simple technique that I don't know about? I really haven't seen an all vocal mix before so I don't have anything to go on. |

ummmm....... how about shorter mixes? mix for about a minute (or less) and make sure the songs go together well. it shouldnt really be all that big of a deal.
i am usually all about vocals but an entire cd of them would drive me :eyespop: |

I think I might be missing something here, but it's not really all that hard to do?
Try pointing your friends in the direction of this mix of mine, see if it's generally what they're looking for:

| - either you are using radio edits, or taking too long to mix it in, or just dont know when to mix a track in. |

| Yeah. Mixes that say "extended vocal". Should cure your problem. |

Kibon - that is a good mix, but it does absolutely nothing to answer my question. You have a staggered mix of both vocal and instrumental tracks, All the vocal tracks have long intros and outros. This is a good job, but it is not what I need. I can do any of that.
I think what it boils down to is that some tracks aren't made to be mixed together. Unfortunately, these are the tracks that I need to stick together. Most of these tracks I am referring to don't have the 10 minute extended club mix versions. If they do, they usually are something a lot different and totally suck in my opinion.
Like Zombie0729 said, it is a lot more difficult than it might first seem.
I can mix instrumentals and vocals no problem, but when you are trying to throw something like:
Kreo - Burn for You (Cop 4 Club Mix)
Way Out West - Mindcircus (Original)
ATB - I Don't Wanna Stop (Original)
Sia - Breathe Me (Mylo Remix)
They are just not really going to mesh together. I was just seeing if anyone knew how to mix stuff that isn't really made to go together and still pull it off.
I guess it's a lost cause trying to explain. |

If they don't go together....then don't mix them. 99% of being a dj is track programming and having a smooth flow between tracks. The way I see it you have three options:
1) If they really just want to sing along to totally unrelated tracks....then just put gaps between the tracks. I doubt they'll mind.
2) Look around more for good vocal tracks that mix well together.
3) Really, really short mixes. Like, 8 beats with the very end and very beginning of the tracks mixed. Or just crossfade into a breakdown. Killing the treble and/or mids so vocals are muffled during the mix can help too. |

What you could try doing is, mix an instrumental track in after a vocal track, but only have it play for 2 minutes, then mix it out into another vocal track, I've done stuff like this, it can sound really good if you do it right.
I dunno why your finding it hard to mix, is it just that they don't flow?, or that you can't get them beatmatched or what?, if your mixing extended vocal tracks, there are parts where there is no vocals for a good amount of time, and in that time you could easly mix out of it, and keep the energy up there. |
