What's with this stupid food tax? (pg. 5)

I want to start a new grassroots party

basically it will be for the following items:

Health care reform (im all for a private-public partnership) and it has worked very well in places like europe. Better health care, more bang for your buck, less expensive and less waste and it still protects the poor people. There are several successful examples globally where this has been ultra successful.

Immigration reform - Immigration is a good thing but not too much at the same time. We should also make it easier for immigrants to use the skills that got them accepted here in the first place. Why should qualified doctors be driving taxicabs when we have a doctor shortage?

Relaxing over regulation: feeling down and out because you cant go see the benson and hedges symphony of fire? No more Goldclub? Cant watch Direct TV? You cant enjoy your favourite beer on a warm sunday afternoon at the beach? My party would end all that. Freedom to all and deal with those who abuse it instead of assuming that everyone is a criminal from the getgo (as we do now)... I am firm beleiver in letting adults make adult decisions.

Debt - I would use any excess money and money saved on cutting waste and corruption on lowering the debt. Once this is gone we can afford to have the luxuries that we feel we deserve without the need to runa deficit.

Taxes- Id either hold the line on taxes or if necissary id raise them slightly to pay off the debt. Hopefully by the time i was done wielding the axe against special interests however, the need for a tax hike wouldnt need to exist. Once the debt was paid off.. TAX CUTS FOR ALL!

Photo Radar - No way! It causes more danger than it prevents. remember how everyone just sped along happily and then slammed on the brakes everytime they saw something on the side of the road? It is what it is. A cash grab and nothing more. If i had to raise revenue, id do it more openly and honestly.

Cities - definately need revitilization, But city council wouldnt get a red cent from me until they cleaned up their own house. City council cries poor yet they are ready to spend $250,000 on worldwide travel junkets for councillors and the mayor. Not to mention arts grants etc.

Gay rights - Im not gay but it doesnt mean you aren't. Why shouldnt Gay people have the same rights straight people? One concession i would give though is calling marriage a civil union (at least it would shut up most of the religious nuts) After all, democracy is about comprimise.

Huh? Books? What are those? I'm still working on my ESL let alone reading fantastic liberal fiction.

You cannot negate that Mulroney sold out Canada by instilling privatization (Selling Air Can--now in bankruptcy) and passing the GST.

IMO - Next to NAFTA those were some of the best things Mulroney ever did. Gov't has no business in running an airline - and immagine how much tax I'd pay if there were no GST - probably 65% instead of the crazy amount I'm already paying.

BTW - Who has privatized PetroCan and is liquidating the remaining portions of their assets in PetroCan? Mulroney right?

Please don't let yourself be swayed by the propaganda

Oh, but I do get swayed - very easily - and all because I haven't done my homework, haven't read books or taken fluffy arts courses in university.

Wow!
You really are a nasty piece of work aren't you.
How long have you been suffering with hostile depressive mood swings?
Were you a bully when you were grewing up?
How did others feel around you--I'm sure you must have lived a very sheltered life.

I'm so sorry that you live with this immense hatred.

I can see now that trying to help clarify fact from fiction is futile. I won't waste any more efforts.
Clearly, no one can express an educated opinion because in your world you are the only one that is right, and all others should be hung because they don't agree with you.

Too bad--I actually respected your view. I even thought you were more intellectual, until I read your last 2 posts.

Best of Luck to you.

I hope you get over your anger.

since this debate(or was until weenie ran away because RJ had a rebuttal) is so off topic.....heres what I miss

REFORM!

seeing preston on newsworld was great.

DIE YOU LEAF HATER DIE!

ok now that that's out of my system... (no actual hatred is held for you, simply a natural torontonian response to seeing any defaced maple leafs sign).

I'm inclined to agree more with a regulated capitalist party... If only their was one. By allowing everyone to make their own way without being a detriment to society as a whole, no one has any excuse for not being successful in life! I know millionaires who never went to university and I know extremely well educated PHDs who have failed miserably at life. That is the basis for my (almost) no holds barred capitalist party idea.

are we still yapping about the food tax? because it's no longer.
PartyHarlequin
No, I was just responding to something in general. I had forgotten about the whole food tax thing a while ago

Wow, another one :eyes: Do they grew you by the dozen?

Let me put this in a way that should end this--I was debating, but my friend was not. It certainly wasn't an educated rebuttal. I think perhaps that was too big of a word for your vocabulary.

I don't waste my time debating with people that don't know how to debate. And that, of course, includes you. No one in a debate uses the word weenie against their opponents. That's just childish.

Perhaps when you get some education, experience and a job in the legal/political system, then we can debate.

Answer me this:

Do you know me? Do you know what I've done? Do you know what I've accomplished?

Seriously, I honestly don't understand how one could act so arrogant.
