What exactly do you plan on using the laptop for? That makes a big difference. Although to be honest, I'm lookin' at the specs for the TR3A model and I can't see why the hell anyone would buy it.

I'd personally go with the Mac laptop. As a PC and Mac user (with no crazy "alliance" to a company in me), I'd say that if you were gonna get a desktop, then a PC would definitely be the way to go, on account of just how much cheaper they are relative to Mac desktops. However, once you start talking about laptops, a lot of the price comparisions fall out ( as you can see ), and so if you don't mind spending some time learning the Mac way of doing things, I bet you'll be much happier in the long run with the 12" Powerbook.

Hope this helps!

im planning a round the world tour next year, and size is of great importance, ie. the smaller the better. want to use it for watching movies, general web surfing, possible dv movie editing, image editing, music organisation. i already have a dell inspiron with a 1400x1050 resolution, would moving to a 1024x768 on the apple be a big step down?

I would definitely go with the Powerbook then. It's as good as or better than the Vaio in every category you listed, I would say.

Switching to a 1024x768 res. shouldn't be too bad. I used 1600x1200 for over a year on my desktop and then switched to 1280x800 on my current laptop, and I've had no problems. Maybe it's just me though.

can you believe i can actually fly all the way to NY from dublin and get get the laptop there and will still work out cheaper than buying it in a shop here

Really? Prices must be outrageous up there. I mean, euro-dollar exchange rate isn't that bad these days, about $1.20=€1.

well one of the major thingfor the mac is its customer service, hands down the best i have ever delt with. The products are amazing as well, I have a 17 inch powerbook and my only complaint is i bought it a week before they released the 1.33ghz and 80 gig HD version. I have had no problems at all.
The Powerbook gets a big thumbs up from me.

If you're touring, Apple has a nice universal power adapter kit, too.

You'll need 'em if you want to plug in or recharge in different countries. I doubt the battery will last the entire trip.
