ditto !!!
I find french wines to be too sweet, maybe that's why so many people prefer them but Chilean wines have a bold taste which I really enjoy. |

hahaha. I've done the same thing, numerous times. (I'm quite the drinker) What I've found is, if you're going to be drinking a really, really cheap wine (like some of the box wine) the best way to drink it is to mix some sprite/7-up with it. For some reason, making it a "spritzer" helps make the hangover not so horrible the next morning.
Vodka and diet coke is my drink, right now. That and beer. |

| Mmmmmmmmm, I love wine. Specially a mexican wine called Cabernet Franc Merlot 1999, from Casa Chateaou Camou. That one (which goes for about $60 USD for a 750. ml bottle) or any Casa Madero's wine. ;) |

wine hangovers are the worst.

if you're down for the earthy toned cabs then you're going to the wrong places! Old world wines (france & Italy) are known for their more subtle and earthy tones. The new world wines (Cali, SA, Aussie and Chile) are known for being more fruit-driven and bold.
i consider myself a huge fan of wine, and definitely very knowledge able on it.
For you, since it seems money isnt an issue (i wish i had that case hookup like you) please ask aroud and see if you can find a Bordeaux wine from the medoc (left bank) region. make sure to ask about and see that the chateau has a cru classe' (quality ranking) and appears in the appelation of "1855 classification" (a classification/rankings of all left bank bordeauxs. you'll be in for a treat, i promise :)
I also had a cool interview in austin with velocity electronics and believe it or not i had to present infront of the CEO and 4 board memebers about any topic for 5-7 minutes... i did mine on wine - basicly a crash course and in the process explain why a cabernet is more fitting to a steak dinner than a Pinot Nior. At the very end of my presentation i say "and just in case you wanted to try out everything i've been talking about, you're in luck" as i pull out two bottles, a cab and a pinot... needless to say i got the job offer, and i have about 2 weeks from today to accept or not (im still holding out for an offer by TI in houston).
anyways my favorite wines are definitely chianti and can (the Grenache grape variety that is grown only on sardignia). I'm a sucker for italian reds
check out http://www.grape-varieties.com/ its pretty cool little site |

I'm a big fan of New Zealand sauvignon blancs....can't remember any names at the moment.
I haven't really had much wine, mainly just wines from Australia like Wolf Blass, Penfolds, Lindemans and all the other big brands.
Hehe you can't go past the el-cheapo Spumante to get you pissed, like Riccadonna and Verdi from Italy.
P.S. Has anyone tried Montes wine from Chile? Any good? we sell it at my work, and i have always been curious about it. |

i had a 1983 margaux margaux once and yeah, heaven. The wine guy knows my tastes so he'll always just say hey try this. This one that I only had one bottle of on a trip...my God. It was Australian, and they fermented it with tobacco leaves. almost tasted like dirt, i loved it. I dunno though. I lot of nice wine does naturally come from France, but some 98 and 02 Napa Valleys were amazing, and I just find such unique stuff from the other places.
So I understand what youre saying, and even though the % is lower, the few that come out that meet my demands tend to have more character to em.
Plus I hate the French :D |
