True, but vinyl will still not be destructed :)
1. Anjuna is the only big label doing this atm
2. You know how much people love the vinyl format
A lame release group will of course rip it, and wee... people can get the AnjunaDigital music from their FTP sites.
I'm not good with quality, but
1. If they rip the tunes in the analog way, how big will the loss in quality be ?
2. Can't be so difficult to "hack" these wma files and encode them ?
Not saying I want this to happen though, just curious...
I bought 4 tracks there for 5£ today, but waiting for verification.
Don't hope it takes too long... |

1. your wrong, hooj/lost language, armada are all doing this
2. people also are now prefering the cd format. all the top 10 dj's are using it.
3. exclusive unreleased mixes and forthcomming stuff is availible before the vinyl.
4. im buying every anjuna release despite having half the stuff on mp3. why? because i want better than vinyl rips to burn to cd to play out and stick in with the rest of my paid for cd collection, and to support the artists and label out the goodness of my heart. anjuna is a relatively small label and needs all the help it can get. it just so happens the system is flooded at the moment due to the insane amount of digital orders in its first day. the proof is in the pudding.

Don't forget Yoshop.com. I like the fact that they use mp3 over wma. I am bummed to see them using wma. If they wanted DRM it would be nice to also have AAC releases so Mac users can use them.
Plus an mp3 means I can put it straight into FS instead of burning a CD and ripping that. Going from one lossy format to another is usually a pretty bad idea (though I could keep it as a WAV I guess). |

Another place that no one seems to know about is Beatport. They offer music that can be purchased and downloaded in AAC or Mp3 -- or you can purchase WAV files that are burned to disc as data files and then FedEx to you.

I was hoping that Anjunabeats would use them, but since they don't offer anything with DRM (Digital Rights Management) they decided to go with Windows Media 9, and do it themselves -- which only works with Windows. So if you have a Mac you're SOL.
Check out Beatport if you get a chance -- there aren't many labels on it yet that may appeal to people here -- but a few like the following might:
JOOF
Platipus
Global Underground
Bonzai
Silver Planet (Coming Soon)
The thing that I think is really cool about this site is that real DJs can use it to purchase quality WAV files which can actually be played in clubs. It's the best site I've seen so far that tries to cater to the needs of the consumer without trying to limit the use of what they can do with the music they purchase. |

Edit - Do you know what bitrate they use for their mp3s? There FAQ does not say. I should probably by the WAVs and convert them myself but the mp3s would be very tempting if they are real high quality.
Edit again - It looks like they are 192kbps. WAVs on CD is the way to go IMO. |

Basically you shouldnt worry about what anjuna are offering, if they felt it would cause problems then i bet a lot of money they wouldnt have bothered.
The format is in WMA, wierd you may say but this has the best digital rights management which is excellent as far too many people has the thought of that music is their god given right.
The WMA format has been tested extensively by Paavo (P.O.S) in nightclubs, and has found that the quality is the best ever you would find as the tune offered on the shop is the one straight from the final mastered copy. |

I've read on the site in the FAQ forum that they will be offering mp3s at 320kbps for download. When exactly, they really don't say -- hopefully soon. Would be curious to hear the difference between them and a WAV file. |

the Mark Norman remix of Forever would be an excellent buy...but i think i'd still prefer the CD maxi or single itself as something physical to have
hopefully it turns out to be something that's NOT wma, rather mp3 or one of the higher compression encodes... |
