Beatmatched records losing tempo?

Hmmm, yea, so I didn't really know how to title this thread. The question however is that sometimes I will beatmatch two records with about a 45 second lock. After I am positive they're locked I will take the needle off the incoming record and wait for the playing record to get to the point I want to insert the incoming record. Once I start to cue in the incoming record I notice that they are off a lot more than when I first had them beatmatched. Is this my imagination? I don't think so. It seems like they play slower or quicker or something as they reach the center of the record. Does anyone else notice this? Could it be I have to much weight and drag on the stylus as it goes towards the center of the record that it is actually affecting the record's speed.
Who knows.... I keep thinking maybe this is just in my head. Let me know I'm not crazy. |

| A quality pair of 1200m3ds. they have taken some beating, but they still have a strong motor and are properly calibrated |

| hrm curious.. sometimes records that arn't pressed brilliantly can alter pitch slightly as it gets further into the middle.. but i don't think the weight on the stylus will make a difference, unless you have it set stupidly high. what carts are you using and how much weight is on them? |

| I am using ortofon concorde carts with nightclub S needles. I reversed the weight on the back of the tonearms. |

| I would have to agree its the pressing. This happens to me with certain records as well. I usually just make a small mark on the label of the record to remind me its a bad pressing. |

Well, I used to try and fiddle with the correct weight and all that stuff. I was having trouble getting it all right. I wrote my DJ friend in Mexico City and he told me to just reverse the weights to fix the problem. I mean, it seems to work fine. It doesnt seem to abnormally wear or my records or anything else. I threw that weight comment in just as a longshot guess as what could be wrong.
Do yall disagree with his reccommendation to reverse the weight? Should I set it up correctly? |

Good god man! WHY?!
Nightclubs should work fine anywhere from 2-4. If you are really brutal with your records set it to 5 i guess.
Anyway, I would blame it on the pressing. I got 3 Drives - Sunset on Ibiza [Xtravaganza] and the hole was so off center that the song "worboled" the entire length of the track (the worboling getting faster the closer to the center it got). |

How common is it to find bad pressings of records? This doesn't happen all the time, but it is far from an isolated event as well. |

if i were you i would set it up with the weight the right way around, that way you can actually tell what weight you are putting onto the stylus. |

| Yes, with the counterweight facing the right way, and set it to about 3 grams. It works great. I don't know why you would want to reverse the tonearm weight anyways |
