i think most european languages are derived from latin so that'd explain the similarities |
Nah, only romanic languages (french, italian, romanian, spanish, portugese) are derived from latin, although all european languages have at least some latin influences. All those except basque are derived from ancient proto-indoeuropean language spoken in asian steppes about 5000-10000 years ago. That's why some words sound almost the same in all european languages, like tu/du/thou/ti/tu (gaeilc/german/english/croatian/french for singular you) for example. |
