i am so ing sick of atkins bull. Americans are Gdamn Morons if you ask me. Eat some veggies, have some pasta with some chicken, and a in salad. wash it down with a beer or glass of wine. eat some total raisin bran for breakfast. an apple and a sandwich for lunch. run or work out 2-3 times a week. thats it. thats how you get in shape...only eat 3-4 times a day. quit snacking.

or pray to the Atkins fairy to magically take your fat and leave muscle during the night

i got friends on the atkins diet and I point out to them...I've come out with more money and healthier than them. I tell them to exercise and watch what they eat (depends how much weight you want to lose) and they say no...the atkins diet will fix it all.

I think the problem with society is that we want a quick fix solution for everything. You are too fat, we want the magical drug to make us drop 30 pounds in 6 weeks. People just don't get that healthy living is a lifestyle, not just a 7 week fad then back to chips, fatty foods and more beer. It takes time to get into shape, I'm still working on it...2 years later but it is worth it when you realize you might live longer and happier with less health problems.

Your body is a result of your lifestyle. Thus changing your body would require a change in your _________ :D

and when someone asks you what kind of lifestyle you lead you dont answer "low carb". That would mean that there are some other changes required.

The other problem is people wanting to lose WEIGHT. they dont give a about their composition. first goal is to lose FAT. The beginnings of diets tend to 1) dehydrate you and 2) reduce muscle mass.

you need to do something to 1) maintain muscle mass and 2) maintain hydration, and still lose weight. Now how do you think you gotta do that. Its like.... I dunno! its like people had their frontal lobes whirled around with a blender. either that or somehow men through our feminization process that is underway somehow ended up with a chicks logic center instead of a mans.

I say it depends what they are trying to achieve

Depends what your diet consists of really

I mean if I eat fatty foods at times then I would aim for low fat foods to counteract it

You sound in shape Mario, so I'd leave it. Who cares low carbs or low fat....hell the public can't tell the difference anyway. You see LOW CARB Beer, I bet if you asked a group of 667 people, 70% have no idea what carbs are and what they do in the body.

yet most north americans are fat anyway..that is the trouble

America is probably the fattest nation on earth (according to CNN) and Canada is not much better. People just don't exercise and most have NO willpower to stick to a diet or exercise. Most do it for a few weeks then fail.....sighs....long term health problems will occur.

i look pretty good

anyways im wondering

people who get on atkins diet have long term (-) effects because of low carbs

my question is

wuts better?

buying something that is low carb high fat...e.g. a bag of new doritos 4 net gram of carb with 12 grams of fat

or buying a bag of baked potato chips with only 3grams of fat
and 22 carb

I thought high fat was bad...?

wtf

yes ^^ wtf????! Christ. Just eat right. Just stay away from in fats, doritos, chips, and exercise regularly...Trust me. Most people don't look that great without exercising, team sports, or are active in a sport....If there's a problem with fad diet decisions, that's the worse thing you could have....stay away from fad diets!:eyespop:

Cutting carbs does work though, much better than just cutting calories if you do it right.

I live above a liquor store and a pizza place. Across the street from my apt. there are Chinese and Indian restaurants, as well as a Popeyes Chicken. As a result, I gained 20 lbs. in 4 months.

But then, I decided to eat healthier and cut the alcohol. No more pizza, fries, fried chicken, beer, soda etc. But I also decided to cut the bread and the pasta and the rice that I loved so much. I ate meats, chicken, and fish and lots of green vegetables. I also started working out around 3-4 times a weeks. As a result, I lost 20 lbs. in 3 weeks. I've been slowly adding carbs and I'm feeling better than ever.

bit excessive eh?

but it comes back to my point, you feel better when you exercise and eat right.

Yes cutting carbs does work. I'm not trying to start on you but last reply so i'm quoting. The Atkins killed people, not many but few. Just like Red Bull:toothless *hint, hint* It DOES like in triple your fat intake...not to mention saturated fat which is the worst. If you stay on too long that's when you lose; heart attack, or liver failure. Those are the two fatal things that have happened so far with the diet. Also, if you are somewhat enlightened on the diet, are familiar with it, then common sense would tell you that clogged arteries = heart attack, stroke, etc. So if you really need to lose weight (anyone, genreal here) then do it, but not for a long period of time (which everyone knows already anyway). If not, just eat right, exercise normally/regularly, and have self-esteem!
