well i'm almost out of college now, couple more months and it's time for me to burst forth from the womb. I was thinking of becoming a teacher as my future job, but i'm getting antsy about it and i don't know if i'm goign to go through with it.
Since i'm lost right now anyways, i've decided that i want to go teach english abroad (probably japan). I mean now's the time for me to do something like this, as i can't do this when i'm 35 lol.
Have you guys ever thought about going abroad to teach english ( or just work abroad, or something in that vein... Not education abroad programs though)?
helpful hints appreciated, like some links or people i should talk to. |

my girlfriend is going into the peace corps this summer. she also thought about teaching abroad cause they get paid pretty decent. i don't know...its gonna suck for those you leave behind... |

yeah it's going to suck not having my family there, but it'll only be a one year commitment. the only person i'd be really worried about would be my grandma as she's 86.
but i need to get out of this fantasy life that college is. i need to do something wild and shock myself back into reality. right now i feel like i'm just floating through life, which is very very bad as i just lag on everything.
i need to get out of california, get out of the USA and see what its like outside.
:D |

i met this girl that did that exact same thing. She went to Japan for 2 years and taught english. SHe said it was an amazing experience, and I believed her.
Not just because she was hot, but rather she had a ton o cool stories about it all.
Do it. Do it. Come on, do it. |

| I know a girl who taught in Japan and didn't recommend it, they aren't that friendly and don't socialize with whitey. But in general non-Americans are enthusiastic about learning so that's a big bonus. Nothing is worse than trying to teach a bunch of spoiled low achieving brats. So go for it. |

hmm... how old are the people you're gonna teach? By the way, Porky taught English in Korea and wrote a thread about it - good info on teaching English abroad ;)
Or come to Brazil, we're social people :D |

| you gotta understand..japan is a very different country. if you've ever seen 'lost in translation' then you know what i'm talking about. and 1 year in a foreign country is a lot longer than you might think.. |
