Oh, how musical taste evolves

Way back then I was actually listening to hiphop, as in Eminem and Will Smith... I thought it was all nice and dandy, until I heard Scooter's "Call Me Manana"
That song was so agressive, so energizing, so FAST... I fell in love with it, and bought a freaking lot of Scooter CDs, while exploring cheese-trance a bit. That ended in mediocre purchases like Lightforce, Darude and some horrbile, like DJ Alligator.
After I while, I was wondering, is there nothing more to this?, but then I took a quick listen to "Deeply Disturbed" by Infected Mushroom, and I was literally hypnotized by their weird style. About at this same time I got into Astral Projection, because of their track "Dancing Galaxy".
After I listened to all these tracks one too many times, I was bored. Waiting for new stuff by them, there was a musical dry period.
Nothing.
I bought a few Holymen CDs, mainly because of The Last Universe. but this was only a brief obsession, because at that time, I got active on this site. I discovered Tiesto and Sasha, and by my own effort, X-Samurai. And the most recent artist I've gotten into is Aphex Twin...
So, what's your story? |

It was different for me because when I was younger i didn't dig all the mainstream music that was playing. So I was just growing up with a general sample of music from a variety of genre's that my friends would listen to (Rap, Rock, Heavy metal).. I just didn't like the style. So I was young and my older sister let me tag along to some guys party (originally i just came for the pizza :D). There i heard scooter, it was foreign, but i liked it. I liked it alot.
From scooter, I started borrowing some more of her CDs, after awhile, my bro was lending me some cds from his friends like Tiesto, Sasha, Digweed... The stuff just grew on me, and i'm addicted :D
But it evolved like a big fan, cause from scooter, i sampled house, jungle, trance, dance, happy hardcore, gabber... Then it just narrowed to trance.. From listening to some Dj Taucher and Matt Darey. |

| I may stand alone here when I say I still enjoy good hiphop (which is in short supply these days). |

| I was always into mainstream Hard Rock and Metal. That eventually moved into Industrial. I first got into EDM with House music tho, going to raves and listening to ppl like Bad Boy Bill and Richard "Humpty" Vission.... from there I just started listening to all types of EDM and got mostly into Trance because I happend to buy some trance/progressive records from a friend who was moving so I could learn to mix records. Now I'm sitting here waiting for my first order of Hard Trance records :D |

First music I listened to was pop back in the 80s', Michael Jackson, movie soundtracks etc., can't really remember all.
Then we got MTV I was in my teens, and I was fan of Top 20, and got into rap, listened to that for a while.
When I was 18 or so, I really got into euro-dance or italo-dance if you will, we had very influental 'Dee Jay Time' radio show, the only of it's kind here with live mixes, they played loads of cheesy tunes and made lot of compilations that you can find online even.
They had some elements of trance but nothing big.
I would never have found out about trance if it wasn't for internet, I came across mixes by Paul Oakenfold and Tiesto, names unknown to me by then, but since I'm always open for new things, I quickly embraced my new passion, and I felt priviledged listening to world's best DJs while no one here never heard of them, hehe
However when you only listen to music and never get to experience it in person, you don't really get to feel and know it.
I finally got my chance on my holiday in Holland, I went to Armin van Buuren party that was really the best ever, Tiesto, Oakenfold, and some others and I had such a great time I became really addicted to trance, specificly to Armin's sound, he's a great DJ and always has time for fans 'stupid needs' :stongue: |

I'll go back as far as 1997...
Before I got into EDM (trance mostly around 2001) full time, I was a big hip-hop head. I was mainly into oldskool hip-hop (stuff from the 80's to early 90's) and psuedo-underground stuff (rawkus records, jurassic 5, etc). This was during the late 90's. But I also had a big interest in EDM then (breaks, big beat, prog-trance, house, you name it), it just hadn't taken over my life yet ;). After that I started getting heavy into Turntablism for about a year or so.
Then I moved on to hard-house for little while as my favorite. Trance hit it big for me during late 2001, all of 2002, and early 2003.
Towards the middle of 2003 I started to really become a big fan of prog-house, tech-trance, a little techno and other things.
Before long, trance was being crowded out by numerous other genres of EDM.
As it stands right now, I listen to 80% techno which I loveee and spin 100% of, and the rest of my listening is taken up by prog-breaks, electro, prog-house, etc. Pretty ironic considering this time last year I absolutely HATED techno (you can probably find some posts on here by me railing against it). |

cant remember the years for the following so not sure if they're in order...
faithless - insomnia -> meet her at the love parade -> garage(ooh dear, got sidetracked:o ) -> cheese trance (djsammy/scooter) -> cheesy vocal versions of good tracks (eg flight 643 (love's on fire)) - Pumping/uplifting/anthem trance (spiral/waterfall/spirits/for an angel):) |
