Tampa - vent
View this Thread in Original format
trancebrat
The sole purpose of this thread/post is just for me to vent. There are many things that I love about Tampa, but the music and club scene here are not some of those things. The thread about 93.3 is what brought this on so please forgive me for ranting, but I swear it's like therapy for me. :tongue2

Thank you in advance, FLTA, for providing a forum that allows me to express my feelings! :D

VENT :whip:

The music and club "scene" in Tampa sucks. If I want to hear trance I have to go to Miami or Orlando when they get the big names in town. I'm STILL waiting for Tampa to bring PvD back and it seems like they will NEVER bring Tiesto or Ferry here. If I won our state lottery (when it was banked in the high numbers and not at a minimal amount) I swear I would invest in DJ's & artists that are friends of mine that have undiscovered talent. I would buy or create a sound studio and let my friends use it to create/produce music. I would buy or invest in a nightclub. I'm part Seminole Indian so maybe I could talk the tribe into letting me put a club right there on the reservation. Yeah...now that would be nice. Not to compete with Floyds, but they are owned by Hard Rock and they have to follow whatever HR says. This is obviously a fantasy because it would never happen, but it would be nice not having to abide by the laws of the county.

I can guarantee you I would know how to make that club go the hell off because I would have plenty of help and the people that would help share my passion. I've been in the scene since 1991 and I worked in the club scene from 1994-1998 doing everything...including promotions. We here in Tampa have watched our scene go to hell and we have all felt like our hands were tied. I'm not talking about the partying scene...I'm talking about the days of bad ass clubs with good vibes. Long live Thee Fantasy Ranch! They razed that damn club, but that place still lives on in spirit. That place had such an awesome vibe. I had some of the best times there. Other clubs just can't compare. Clubs here open and close constantly because some of them don't have a clue what they are doing. There are some that think a mixed format of music is the way to go. One club...fine...but now everyone is doing it. I'm not dogging on Stormans because I happen to be very partial to them even though I don't care for their format on Friday nights. They still pack that place wall to wall and it always has a good vibe. If only they let them play just a little more trance!

I would love to be able to own a club that I could have my best friend be the resident DJ at. His style is a mixture of Tiesto and PvD. Every weekend that club would play trance. I would succumb to the masses and play house and breaks during the week to appease them, but on Saturday it would be trance music only. Maybe people would be resistent at first, but after the response I saw at George Acosta's last show when my best friend and George spun trance for 8 hours together I know people would come. Look how many came out for Oakie on a Tuesday night...days after Sasha was here and right before the WMC! Look how many people traveled to Orlando to see Tiesto & Ferry Corsten. People beg for trance on my friend's message board and when he spins it out at places like the Amp the response is insane.

"My club" would be the only club open in the entire Tampa Bay area that did a trance night. Let the other clubs fight it out for the hip hop and break beat crowds. I would have the crowd that I love..."tranceaddicts"! I would bring all the big names in and have my best friend open for them. I would charge a reasonable amount at the door and I wouldn't charge a fortune for a bottled water or an energy drink. I would go broke doing it...but damn, I would be happy in the process. I would put this damn town back on the map as a place that DJ's want to be. People everywhere would talk about how amazing the vibe was in that club...how cool all the people are that go there (people like FLTA's). And...they would talk about the music. Music that they have never heard before. DJ's that they have never seen.

You hear the big name DJ's talk about Miami all the time. When do you ever hear them breathe the name Tampa? Instead I go out to places where I have to listen to people make stupid comments that trance is boring...trance puts them to sleep...trance has the same monotonous beat to it (???). Or worse yet...the only radio station that is a little diverse is so behind in the times that when they announce this "brand new song" that was released...it's ATRC...a year later.

As it is...

I will never win the lottery
I will never own a studio
I will never own a nightclub

Tampa will continue to be stuck in a time warp

Anyone that bothered to read this...thanks for listening/reading. ;)

I'll quit my bitchin now.

I appreciate the offer. I just might. I haven't really read up on anything regarding that so I would have to get back to you on it.

Either way...I would love to eventually meet all of you. :D

You're more than welcome to show! I'll be with PinkLights, and this is her first meetup, so it'll be a blast!

now that i think of it i agree. tampa is nothing compared to miami or orlando.

but this club idea. im always thinking about different business's i could set up once i get my business degree. and u just gave me a great idea. a trance club in tampa.

borrow monay, buy the building, make it up, equip, make your friend the resident, and just be very very conservative with the money, business. make a radio station dedicated to trance/house/breakbeat/dance/hip hop just like in miami and other big cities.

make money off that station AND the club. get rid of the debt and take off with it. hold events in clearwater, etc. you shouldnt put that idea down. it can be done if u got the heart. i diff. got the heart to do it. i want to be a business man when i get out of college and this sounds like a great enterprise to enter into for me.

my other idea's are an ice cream franchise, sounds crazy, but i believe i can get it done. ive gotten others but have forgotten them

Well another mistake of Tampa's was putting that in 95.7 the beat in after 95.7 uh..whatever it was called. Either way, both channels suck(ed). Considering Tampa is a vacation area, there should be no reason why they can't have better clubs/music. Trancebrat uh, hope i'm not contradicting, good thread;)

oh ^^^ me...icecream has to have mint-chocolate chip and some baileys hagen daaz!!!!

Really only some stores (and I actually know what I'm talking about this time!) play trance. Liker abercrombie plays some...the limited plays it most of the time. And the tropicana field DOES play a lot of trance. My biology teacher, excuse me rather my friends, has that projector thing that he plays trance from. It's so cool, he plays trance really early like 7 until even after school like about 330 sometimes...(stopped in once before a football game)if you read my stupid ramblings thanks too. Hhm...believe it or not. lol. Delaware has a trance station. like 86. something. Haven't been up there in a while, forget.

come hang out in columbia sc for a couple weeks. you will go back to tampa and think you are in ibiza. this place has had nor will it have a scene anytime soon. people here have no clue what dance music is. they dont even listen to any of the mainstream cheese. i was considering tryin to get a job this summer djing on the weekend but all the clubs are hip hop. i could try and pay dance remixes of hiphop songs but i would not enjoy it at all. we had a party last week with about 70 people and i set up my gear and spun for about 30 minutes. not a single person danced...they all kept sayin, "play usher, play 50 cent, i am a moron" i let my frind start mixing some hip hop he had (he could not mix for ) and everyone came inside and started dancing. so in other words...my city sucks worse than yours.
