According to this rule, the bottom one is correct. But it also looks wrong, while the first one looks right.

Actually it would be "Castles in the Sky". cdnow.com and amazon.com are pretty good when it comes to this. Most of their songs are labeled correctly.

Here's another example: Rage Against the Machine - Bullet in the Head

Yea I used Amazon.ca on a few, and some were labeled otherwise. Bad luck that the ones I checked were labelled wrong.

Now I have to sort through my mp3s and fix them, again. Argh.

You know what's funny? All throughout school I hated English class so much, and ever since I graduated I find myself to be such a grammar nazi.

i shall fix my mp3s... as i play them.. this may take a while :D
icyhandofcrap
ive got it down for most, except for capitalization of van, de, in, the, of, a... etc...

how are your collections doing in terms of labeling?
Turbonium
How many of you people actually change the ID3 tags to be correct as well? And which of the two do you prefer (ID3v1, ID3v2, or both)?
starglider
While it is technically correct to use lowercase the, a, etc. as in "Rage Against the Machine", I don't do it. Capitalizing every word just looks neater, and it's easier to be consistent. I do however use lowercase letters for van, de, etc, if it's a name that should be spelled accordingly.

eg, In Full Color - Not The First (Vincent de Moor Remix)

I also have my ID3 tags neat, yes. I use v1 and v2 tags interchangeably.

edit While we're on the topic, teknohead has the worst habit when it comes to naming files, eg, James Holden- Horizons (Way Out West Remix). There needs to be a space after the artist name! :p

All of my ID3 tags are labeled correctly, and I use both of them.
Turbonium
Is there a quick way to edit the ID3 tags? I do it manually through Winamp if I notice something is not right.

Very slow.

All of the above cases depend on the individual artist or label releasing the track. There are no hard and fast rules.

There must be. And if there isn't, at least a naming convention for media files.

But there isn't. And my "convention" is to name my files the same way they're written on the vinyl/CD. Hence you get a mixed bag.
