Bascially I cannot spend a lot of money and my DJing goals (at this point) are not career based, more of just a hobby. I definetly am not old-school with the vinyl thing so CDR is the way to go for me.
I found this package below for $300 (which is a perfect price for me, I coulnd't afford much more)

The specs are as follows:
[2] Two Stanton S-250 CD Players - Instant Start, Digital Outputs Fader Start, Selectable Pitch Control [+/-8%,12%,16%], Pitch Bend
[1] One Stanton PRO 30 mixer - 2 Channel Mixer, 2 line and 2 phono/line (switchable) inputs, 3-band EQ (-26/+12dB) per channel, Fader Start, Crossafder reverse switch, Mic input with 2-band EQ (-/+10dB) per channel, Headphone input with cue select, Bright LED meter displays master and cue outputs

So is this good for my situation? |

uhhhh, no!!! believe me you can do just about as much with that as you can do w/ 2 sony discmans and a radioshack mixer. Even though you don't wanna be "old school" i would still perfer 2 sl-1200s to almost all cd players. Plus you live in Florida!!! There's great record shops there, w/ great tracks.
If you really want to get into djing don't waste money. At least start out with 1 used 1200 and a cheap mixer like a gemini umx-7. If you really want to get a cd deck than look at the numark axis 9, you can probably get them for $400ea at GC. |

If he wants to use CDs let him. However the problem with getting cheap is that you will grow out of it quickly. Much better to save up and getting decent stuff right off. Maybe some Pioneer CDJ100s I hear those a really good budget CDJs. |

Its what I did, I got 2 mint techs with no scratches + carts for $650. (They were bought seperate from each other) And in Dec. I made the big move and bought a Xone:62. Im waiting on new carts and headphones right now to complete my setup.
2 Techs| $650 | Xone:62| $1000 | 2x Shure M44-G| $120 | Senheiser HD-280| $75 | Total = $1845 (Took me a year of saving to complete it).
You dont have to make the bold move as I did and get such an expensive mixer, a Vestax PCV-275 or even 175 would suite you just fine. (Which cost over half less than my Xone) |

Honestly with those crap cd players you won't be able to mix very well anyways. It would be a waste of 300 bucks compared to if you were to bite the bullet and go for some techs... or even cdj 800s |

My limit is $400 for mixer & tables.
No vinyl either. Just not for what I'm looking to do. |

with a limit of $400 id say dont bother at all. Your not gonna be satisfied with anything you get within that price range. Maybe try one of the computer mixing programs if you just wanna mess around with mixing. |

What will be so bad about these tables? Why won't I be able to mix very well with them? |

Dan, why not just save money for something better? Dont procrastinate, you dont need the best, but dont get something just to get it. |

All I want to do is take the my CD's and some MP3's on my PC and be a make mixes with them.
I'm not a software person...I've been down that road and I can't stand not being able to touch a mixer and stuff like that. I would much rather prefer hardware.
Listen all I'm asking is: Will the package that I picked out be good enough to be a tool to learn the fundamentals of DJing: beatmatching, EQ's, pitch...etc. All I want is to mix in my room and make some mixes here and there, as a hobby.
Will this be enough for the basic needs of a bedroom DJ? All I need is something that works good enough for me to make mixes. |
