matt- ya you were wrong in assuming this was about tracks... :sadgreen:

no, this won't be my first bike, but my 3rd. the others are previously owned and this will be the first new bike i'll have. also, the others are light engines 250cc and lower so i've never owned anything substantial.

Lumps... i have looked at the honda shadows :toocool: but i liked the yamaha better because it was shaft driven and i won't have to toy around with that too much. there was also another bike in this category that are all competing with each other i think it is a suzuki model. Do you own a shadow?

if i pick a sports bike i would start off with the GSX-R 600, or the ninja 6RR i am not looking for something that has to go over 200mph :gsmile: I was more worried about comfort over a 1-2 hour trip!

and Orbax, yeah thats a good chunk of cash I was looking at financing it I don't have 9,000 to dish out in one go but I found a dealer who would do $250 a month.

the bikes I was looking at new were 7grand. the yamaha 600r and stuff.

Id get your license and insurance and THEN choose. test ride them all. because here is the difference...

an R1 hits power band at 7-8000 RPM
an R6 Hits power band at 7000 RPM
a 600r is an R6 with a powerband that hits at 4-6000 RPM.

the fastest ive ever been is 140 and that was more than enough. Top end speeds are all theoretical youll probably never hit them on anything. You want to test out feel and POWERBAND! You have to keep the track bikes screaming to be under power with them. and if you are at 4k all the time theyll just over heat and self destruct over time.

So get a street tuned bike if you arent planning on doing EXTENSIVE track runs. the single swing arm stuff corners better IMO... in dunno lots of stuff to go into it.

so test ride them before you buy.

No, but I did some pretty exhaustive comparisons last year before I was going to purchase one, until I rear-ended someone (that kinda depleted by bike fund).

Kawasaki Vulcan 2000. <---

As for now, I would like to purchase an older used model of some kind and chop it apart.

Definitely the crotch rocket. You should check out the Yamaha YZF R1's, sick!

How tall are you, how much do you weigh is another question. If you are light, then a R6 is more then enough for you. if you want to Stunt or weigh over 200, get an R1 or a gixxer 1000.

I'm going for a GSX-R 750 because i want power and handling and they no longer make the R7 so 750 is where i'm going. R6 will out corner a gixxer 6 any day of the week. I say you are better off going a 2001 or so if you have never rode a bigger engine bike. You wont be so scared to lay it down, you wont have as much into it as well seeing as you can pick up a used R6 fairly cheap, 5000 roughly.

If you want a Kawi...

In my experience, it's crotchrockets that tend to be more comfortable for longer rides. And If you don't like the seats, you can always get replacements. Cruisers are lame. Buy a crotchrocket and tear that up.

Here's the bike you should buy!!

If you want to save money I'd recommend buying used (1-3 years old). For first time drives a non-sports bike is advisable, so you won't kill ur self before you learn how to drive. Cruisers are better for long trips, but if they don't have a shield (i know they look ugly) you can get blasted by the wind on the highway.

Get something mello like a vmax :disbelief

If your worried about taking a pillion then go for something like a Honda VFR 800 or a previous generation Kawasaki 636 or Honda CBR 600. My dad has a VFR 800 and I regularly go on the back and finding it comfortable and I'm 6ft and 12 and a half stone. It will keep up with almost anything. My dads a police driving and riding instructor and could still keep up with his workmates on a Fireblade and RSV Mille R with me on the back. The 600s will also give you more than enough power for the road. Very few people can push bikes to the limit so you probably don't need to progress to a 1000 quite yet.

was looking at yamaha's the other day and i saw one of these, a yamaha FZ6. pretty cool i think, its got the guts of a yamaha sport bike but the handlebars/seating present more of a relaxed, non hunched over feel. plus its cheaper than the YZF600R which is the other one I was looking at! i guess these just came out at the end of last year.
