I've seen Armin van Buuren at both Roxy for 6 hours (summer 2003) and at Avalon, Boston for 2 hours, and I have to say the difference is like night and day.

His 6 hour Roxy set was totally unfocused and tiring. I wouldn't say it was terrible, but it was seriously one of the weaker professional dj sets I've experienced. His 2 hour Avalon set, on the other hand, was completely redeeming. Every track was played at just the right moment, the monster breakdowns along with obvious tracks were kept to a minimum; it was just a blast.

That's why I did not go see Armin the last time he came to Roxy, because I had a feeling it'd be another mediocre, dissapointing time, and in general, that's what it sounds like was. That's also why I'm looking forward to seeing him in Boston again. The 2 hour time-frame, for better or worse, is just a much better fit for Armin van Buuren's sound in my opinion. If he can maintain the level of quality that he layed down last fall in Avalon, it will be a great time.
