oh..and depending on the bar u try to get a job @ sound might be a problem. Lately ive seen lots of bartenders wearing earplugs as the clubs get louder and louder. U might wanna take your hearing and the fact that u r inhaling a lot of second hand smoke into consideration....@ the same time, if u r gonne be @ the club anyways, then you arent doing anymore harm to yourself.

Bartending can be a money making job, but you have to consider that you are not going to have any weekend nights free...and you are going to have to put up with the club crowd all the time. Also, pick a club that has kick ass music!

hey phazon,
i went to the "bartending school of ont." and paid $250. In the school they teach you (for 4 weeks) how to make all sorts of drinks and at the end you go for a test. Now to be behind the bar in Ontario you don't have to have a lisence from the "bartending school of Ont." but you do have to have something called a SMARTTEST.(eventhough many don't) which is an open book test that you pay $30.
what i found out is that most employers didn't care that if you had any of these lisences but rather if you had EXPERIENCE (because if you have experience you obviously can mix drinks)
as far as the money is concerned it is all about WHERE you work. Tips depend greatly on your clientelle and you! You can usually judge how good of a work place it is by how long have barstaff been working there. (when u go to some of these high class hotels, restaurants, etc. when u talk to bartenders some have been there for 10-15 years!!!!!!!!!!!)
i don't know what the laws r where u live but i hope this helps.

Who wants to stick to a girlfriend when you see hundreds of girls each night. I sure dont, but if i found a nice enough girl ill lie to her and tell her i umm work as a doorman overnights haha. I guess ill give it a try, ive got nothing to lose now (but maybe $250)
All of you have really good points. There are alot of factors that come along with this job. Like the fact that working in a club, people buy alot of water, and people smoke around you alot i guess ill have to go look around. Thanx again fellow TA's.

Dude money isnt important.. the girls are

lol.....Oh the girls are more than fun....but it's all about maximum money for minimal effort......that's what I liked about it.......Money is what makes the world go round........girls tend to turn my world upside down.....

as of august 1st Ottawa became a smoke free zone and there is no smoking anywhere in bars, clubs, restaurants or anything. its really weird going into a bar and actually seeing where you are going.

In london here we can still smoke at the bars but i went to a show in Kitchener and lit up ......everyone was looking at me funny...finally a bouncer came up to me and told me to but out.....I was in shock but then I realized I was the only person smoking in the place.....too weird....:eyes:

No smoking in clubs????? thats sad. Im not really a smoker but ill buy a pack when im going out to a club ever so often. Just imagine how disappointed the smokers must be. You should be able to go outside and light one up if anything. There was a place around that had a rule like that.

that would be nice but weird. Lights look good cuz of smoke..so I guess bars would have to invest in the foggers, then actually use em!!

no smoking in pubs and clubs what a great idea

I just turned 18 and i hope i can make a good choice by doing this because people have told me theres a somewhat good amount of money involved. But how much money are we talking about? Tell me as much as you can, cause u guys would have alot to do with the choice im making

Hey Phazon,

listen, if you want to get int o bartending,I'd definately tell u it is the best job i have ever found in my life..its a good businees to get in to... it is fun...and it is good money... I dont know about where you are from but here in florida (usa) we need our liscence to bartend.. i went to a bartending school and paid almost 400 bucks for a two week class... but some schools offer a one week class too. it depends on where you want to work... i know it sounds like a LOT OF MONEY to learn how to mix drinks... but theres more to it...there is so much stuff to learn i never even believed when i went to that school.. besides you WILL DEFINATELY MAKE THAT MONEY BACK IN ONE WEEK OF WORK.

where i work for example.. i only work 3 nights a week.. sometimes just twice a week...I usually make $120 -$150 (tips) that night.. when i only work like 4 hours...I have a guy friend who went to that same bar school w/ me and he is making almost 400 dollars a night at this club in south beach (miami)...i personally dont want to drive that far but he works in a night club and the job is easier most of the time you will only be serving beers/rum and coke/water and shooters( like sex on the beach +orgasm)..cause that is what people drink in nights clubs... if you want to work in a restaurant, then there will be WAY MORE \mixing to do...cause you will be dealing with people who drink MARTINIS +ROB ROYS +DIFFERENT TROPICAL DRINKS ...but the tiping is WAY MUCH BETTER...cause you get a lot of people with money and you would get the guys who tip you $5 dollars for one beer, $10 dollars for a freaking simple martini (its great)... and thats when you know you are heaven.. hehehe
if you really want to do it.. make sure you dont go work in a hotel... because you get a lot of tourists.. and most of them dont carry money aorund.. its more cradit cards..and some of them dont even know they have to tip you...and also some hotels dont allow tipping.. they give you an hourly wage and you have to stick to it.
Pubs /sports bars /night clubs are the best choices for a guy!
anyways.. i hope i helped you in some way.

hopefully i didnt forget anything...but pm me if you have any questions ok?
good luck to you..

That sounds wicked. I wouldn't mind doing bar work but here in the UK you'd get paid £3.50 an hour, and of course no tips (maybe if you worked in a big hotel or something).
