Alrighty ... here is the question or all questions!
A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?
E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
A) I started with the Rave scene in 98/99! But, when I skated in 1993, the rave scene was born in Toronto and all the skaters started partyin', only a few didn't and I was one of them.
B) Rave scene of course, nothing will compare to it!
C) 1 - Syrous - Hyperactive *17,000+*
2 - Dose & Syrous - Freakin' 99 *17,000+*
3 - Dose - Connectedv3 *19,000+*
4 - Citrus@Sciene Centre - *5000+*
D)I would give anything to go back to the prime years of the rave scene.
E) Bad Boy Bill ... no one can come close to him nor test him, back in the dayz!
G) DAY BREAKS - Worst event in Toronto's history. They lost their venue and gain this little tiny warehouse at Eastern Avenue. The line up was mess ... picture 1000 ppl trying to get into this little single door (like your bed room doorway) with no line separations. Once you got in … there was a 2hr line up to get to the other room. The door way was once again a single door and 1000s upon 1000s of ppl trying to squeeze thorough it. If you wanted to go to the bathroom, you had to be in room #2, and since many ppl didn’t get into room #2, unless you did the 2 hr line up, ppl were pissing on the walls and the corners. Once you got into room #2, there was a massive line of cops in riot gear, standing there and waiting until hell broke out. Did I mention that, the promoters were letting ppl pay @ the door and once filled up beyond their capacity, they rejected close to 300 ticket holders that didn’t get in. NO AC WHAT SO EVER !!!
(B/C of Caribana traffic, we were stuck in traffic for about 3 hrs. Normally it would of taken 5 mins to get the venue from where we started. Once we got there, we waited 1 hr and got nowhere, luckily me and my friends sold our tickets! All this info was gathered from 20 ppl who didn’t know each other at all, and said the same story when I asked them about it)
F) Effective @ the Warehouse with Bad Boy Bill and Frankie Bones – My GOD that party was soooooooo rammed. This put the Guvernment’s most rammed event, to SHAME! Back then Bad Boy Bill attracted the most amount of ppl! I believe Paul Oakenfold and him were tied, with the amount of fans in Toronto. Nothing will top the rammness of that event. If there was an area that can fit 20ppl (shoulder to shoulder), these guys would ramm at least 50 ppl. The party itself was pretty damm good though. |

A)2000, raver though the word makes me cringe
B)raves/underground parties for sure.
calling a number to find out where the party was on the same night.
Follow the signs!
C)Thats a good question.
D)Absolutely. I think I still lurk back in time, all my favorite tracks were from that time.
E)Infected Mushroom was prob the top thus far. AVB on Oct weekend 2003.
F)Worst event? If I count 2003/2004 as my first year of big parties, I'd say PVD was probably the worst (Oct 2003).
Buy the ticket take the ride.
G)Corsten (in 2004) was silly. Bad timing. |

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
Raver -WEMF 2000 was my first party. I had no idea who most of the DJs were until months later when I checked the flyer.
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?
Clubs: They're more dependable in terms of cleanliness, bathrooms, cost, talent
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
I guess LoL in 2002
But biggest overall would have to be WEMF in Dunnville
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
Yes, just to catch some of the late nineties vibe before it was all over the news. And to go to the science centre and have someone explain the universe to me while I trip balls.
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
I still have to say John '00' Fleming at Viva 1-year.
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?
Holiday Productions Sept. 2000 at the Stardust (now the Drake) yukky rave goo everywhere, and sooo ing hot.
E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
Liquid Adrenaline (Time Warp?) in August 2000 had a 4 hour line to get in, police everywhere, helicopters, no line control to get inside, so I listened to jungle all night outside. Not bad once there, but I wanted the variety. |

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
Started listening to (and dabbling in the production of) the music in '92. Went to (and actually played at) my first party in '93 at the old Eclipse parties in Hamilton. definitely a raver.
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?
raves > clubs. the feeling of community was something most clubs won't match. better music too.
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
don't know for sure. gotta be one of the WEMFs or maybe one of the Destiny/Lifeforce NYE parties at the Better Living Center
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
nope. had lots of fun, but when things don't change they get stagnant and uninteresting. gotta look to the future. as long as i've got my old mixtapes the memories will always be with me.
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
M-Zone was always one of the tops for me after his performance at WEMF 1996. other than that, never really got into the DJ worshipping cult. Although Commander Tom did a live PA at an Atlantis party once that blew me away (before he got all "rockstar")
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?
my first year? must have been a Visions party. wasn't a bad party, but the music didn't really do it for me (was into more Jungle and Hardcore at the time)
E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
too many to mention! I remember an early Hullabaloo that was at The News nightclub near the airport was really f*ckin hot. We eventually convinced the club owners to open a garage door to let some fresh air in. Went outside and steam was pouring out of the building (I think it was summer or early fall). |

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER? I started going to partys in 1998 when I moved to Florida. I joined the United States Air Force right out of high school and got stationed in Ft. Walton Beach Florida. My roommate in the dorms was from Long Islang NY and was into the rave scene. He started taking me to partys all over the place....mostly New Orleans and Atlanta.
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene? Clubs > Raves I grew away from the rave scene cause it started going downhill fast from the time I started going to them. Something about cracked out e-tards rolling on the ground that didnt impress me too much.:nervous:
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto? Labour of Love 2003 baby:crazy:
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you? Ive always replayed sick ass nights I had in my head....but I cant say I would wanna go back in time. Maybe if I could go back to the 70's for a few weeks but I wasnt even born untill 1980.
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite? Oh god this is always a tough question......But I would have to say Ferry Corsten. Seen the man more than 10 times and he always delivers. Hes prob the most down to earth big name DJ out there atm plus he loves to get trashed and have a great time!!! Not to mention, I really dig his style.....uplifting/electro trance:crazy:
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended? I would have to say this Breaks and DnB event that Club La Vela had back in the day in Panama City, FL. It was all local tallent than night but the place was insain packed cause it was in the middle of spring break. About 100 cops raided the place and made everybody lay on the gound as they walked around and searched everybody. About 50-70 people were arrested for drugs including the owner.:nervous:
E) Most RAMMED event ever!!! Giant Village Party Los Angeles New Years Eve 2002!!!!! Between the areana outside and the Together as One Party inside....there was 100,000 people there all together. Line up was Sasha, Junkie XL, Lee Burridge, and PVD at the main tent.......ing insain party!!!! I can still remember when the clock hit 12 and the ing lazers went INSAIN!!!:eyespop: |

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
I enterted the scene in 2000, and went only to raves because I was 16 and they didn't ID. Plus we don't really have a "scene" at clubs here in Kingston.
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?
I prefer the club scene much more than the rave scene, Although it does require to me drive to Montreal or Toronto. Less weirdos attend clubs, weirdos scare me.
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
My first party in Toronto was idream, Easter weekend of 2003. So technically I have only been going to REAL parties for a year. Armin really got be hooked, I've been going to Toronto or Montreal at least once a month ever since...
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
Not at all. I like the scene now, and how I fit into it. I know more about music. When I use to go to "raves" I didn't recognize any tracks, now I recognize many, which makes the night.
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
Armin, hands down. I have seen him 4 times, and loved every time.
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?
Oakenfold, Mauro Picotto & Sven vath last November at the Guv(all access). Oakenfold was crazy packed, and I realized I just can't get into techno. It was an interesting experience, but not a great night.
E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
Armin @ Suraface in ottawa. Hehe, it's so little in there, and so many ppl were crammed in ! But I got to sit in the DJ booth for 2 hours of his set, totally made up for the crowdedness....

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
Went to alot of raves in 95-96, then hit the clubs from 97 onward and never looked back.
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?
There are very few true raves left anymore... the ones where you had to know someone who knew someone who knew someone.... the more commercial parties are often all ages, and this is a real turn off for me since I feel old when I go. I think the club scene is more diverse and has more to offer since almost all cities throughout the world have some type of club to offer. I guess I feel more at home in clubs.
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
In TO? Probably connected v3 (when Oakenfold hedlined). That was the last party I have been to period.
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
I would want to go back to hit up the NYC club scene between 91 - 97. There were so many good clubs going on and this was before the city started shutting places down. The scene was still very pure back then. As far as TO goes, I think 97-98 were its best years for clubbing and I would want to revisit those.
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
Too hard to say cause I've seen so many. I know Oakenfold and Tiesto are some of my least favorites. I refuse to go to any Oakenfold shows anymore.
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?
There were a few REALLY sketchy parties I went to. Don't remember names though (they were quite underground).
G) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
Labour Day Weekend 2001, Boy George @ Spundae (1015 Folsom in San Francisco).... the people on this board complain about the Guv getting packed... let me tell you that the worst Guv nights can't even compare. You just couldn't move... rammed harder than sardines.

A) First Party : That hullaballo at the news near the airport i dunno what year it was and i wasn't a raver....well for the night i was i guess.
B)Clubs better,,, better lights/sound
C) Labour of love 2003 i think.
D) Nahhh, I have better appritiation for the music now.
E) Probley Marco V, he blew me away.
F) I was at a z1035 summer rush party way back when at the docks outdoors and the sound was so horrible you couldnt' even hear anything.
G) That hullaballoo was nuts, it took us 3 hours to get in and once inside it was so rammed and dirty. Soon as i walked in the rave goo was everywhere. I remember some raver yelling out in the hallway "it aint a party till were knee deep in the " lol, good times. |

if you define..
a rave as being:
- a party thrown by a rave promoter (ie. Destiny) at a public/private venue (ie. BLC, Guvernment, Viva, etc.)
and a club party as being:
- a party thrown by a club itself (Guvernment) in its own venue (Guvernment)
then..
A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
I had been listening to electronic music since 1994/1995 but i didn't start hitting my first parties till 1998/1999, i was about 18 then. I started off as a RAVER.
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?
Both have its PROS and CONS. The rave scene was definately a lot more fun in the sense that the vibes and atmosphere of the crowd seemed to be more involved with the music rather than more trivial things you might experience at a club party. I think it's unfair to label raves as having a greater e-tard presence or whatever since you can experience the same crap ala. comfort zone and other notorious afterhour clubs in TO.
The advantage of club parties is that now that they're more prominent they throw their parties with a lot more $$$ which results in everything from crazier lineups, to bigger and better decor. Let's not forget as well that now that there are more club parties, the older crowd are less in numbers at raves, which makes me feel too old when i attend them..
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
Syrous - Bittersweet 2000 @ BLC, iDance 2000 and 2001. Approx. 10,000 and 15,000 respectively?
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
Yeah sure why not??
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
has and will always be PVD! :D
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended?
Liquid Adrenaline - Time Warp 5... ughhzz... juss thinkin bout it makes me angry. Destiny - Ravers Gone Wild didn't go off all that well either, and of course let's not forget Labour of Love I in 2002.
E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
Labour of Love I in 2002 no question.

A) What was the year you started the scene and were you a RAVER or CLUBBER?
been in the scene since 1994 listening to HHC and others.. however I didnt have any friends who were into this . So didnt start to go to trance parties till 19. Raving wasnt ever a big thing for me, it was clubbbin!
B) If you were a RAVER to start with, what do you like more ... the raves or the club scene?
wasn't ever a raver, can't ever imagine myself as a raver.. but HHC RULES!!! ;)
C) What was the largest party you ever attended in Toronto?
Considering I only moved back to t.o in 2002 I can't really say i've been to huge parties. However Sasha's B-day @ Space Ibiza was 6,000 and Danny T @ Prvilige was 8-9000
D) If you had a choice to go back in time, would you?
never
E) Which major HEADLINER was your personal favorite?
i'd have to say.. AVB @ Club Eden in Ibiza 2002 it was just pure insanity..
F) Within' your first year, which event was the worst event you EVER attended? Can't remember at all.. none have been awfully bad
E) Most RAMMED event ever!!!
Sasha @ Space in Ibiza.. so rammed so close to each other I could smell the coke on the next guys breath! :stongue: |
