i actually think a lot of it's really really good music, and there's some great talent out there
but the music still bothers me in that i can't listen to it for very long without it taking over my emotions
i'm a strong believer in the fact that your mood can be easily altered by the music you listen to, and it seems to me that only listening to really depressing music non-stop can't do anything but hurt you
and i suppose maybe some people only like sad music in the same way that some people only like happy music or chilled stuff, but the happy and chilled people can still get by as normal, which doesn't seem to be the case for emo
so my point is basically that its good music, but it just tends to take over your life and you end up wallowing in regret and self-pity and anger

I prefer emo more. At least they don't glorify crime. |
one glorifies crime, one glorifies depression
take your pick :p

I about 90% of the emo bands are all the same. They all write about the same , with the same whiney emo voice.
I also believe that music can effect you on how you feel and think and decisions you make. Emo to me is emotionally shallow music much like rap is. Yeah they sing about breaking up with their girlfriends and what not but the music itself just sound emotionally devoid. |

but if you put it that way every genre has a stereotypical subject. not all emo bands talk about breakups and whatnot, some of these bands have amazing lyrics |

exactly, you guys are generalizing emo and giving it a bad rep. Some of the lyrics from emo bands are extremely poetic and deep and not cheesy at all. Apart from that, most of these bands are extremely talented.
Coheed and Cambria
Taking Back Sunday
Thursday
The Mars Volta
of course they are hybrids of progressive/melodic rock with a hint of emo.
The only band i like i would consider completely emo is Dashboard Confessional. They did a great show in the mtv unplugged and all the band members are very talented.
ill take it over rap anyday..
however i do hate emo kids as well. I dislike anyone who takes a trend to an extreme and i dislike cliques like metal heads, punks, emos, goths, ravers, ganstas etc. They all take it to the extreme.
Edit: for some reason this is so deja vu |

how many emo kids does it take to screw in a lightbulb? none, they all sit in the dark and cry about everything. :happy2: |
LOL! :stongue: I like that.
this emo and thug bull. If you put yourself into a ing category, and can't stand up and be yourself, then my friend you deserve to be stomped.
My 2 cents... |

exactly, Thursday and Thrice have good lyrics and do not revolve around breakups. Dashboard Confessional does do, i think.
bashing on stereoptypical cliques is always deja vu and sooo cool ;p
