Questions on Traktor Dj Mixer!
View this Thread in Original format

Hey TAs,

I've been fooling around a bit with the Traktor DJ Mixer, the older version, not the new yellow one. I definitely like it but I had a few questions on it so hopefully someone can give me a hand. First off, I was wondering why there is a little "click-click" noise throughout every song, seems like it's at every beat... someone must know what I'm talking about. I have 1 soundcard with 2 outputs, I was wondering if it was really worth it to buy the 2nd soundcard, if so what advantages does it give you? Also, do you guys use the auto-sync button or do you do beatmatch manually? I see that it's gonna take a lot of practice to get it right. Also, in order to record a set off Traktor, how do you do it? Is there a way to save the set onto your computer, or do you use an external recorder and then save it? I'm pretty new at this mixing thing. Thanks in advance to whoever replies!

I see no one has replyed to this, i got traktor and use it quite alot, seeing as though i don't have my dex yet. I have the grey/silver version, and i didn't know you oculd get a yellow one, reckon you could send it to me?? anyways i wouldn't go for the second sound card, as long as you have a fast computer it won't help much. But that click sound well it could be a bad song, or it could be the fact of a slow machine? if not you will probably needa turn something off in the options menu, such as beat find. And yea haha i use the auto sync, too damn hard on pc to manipulate the song. So yes traktor is quite smart and it does a good job i reckon, ecept when it can't find the beat and it makes a hidhious sound. But anyways hope i helped ya out

Thanks for the reply Voidet,

I don't have the yellow (new) version as apparently it is worse in a few ways than the grey (older) version. But you should be able to update it from the traktor site. The click sound is apparent in every song so it's something with Traktor, you might be right and it might just be an option I can turn off. A 2nd sound card apparently helps out with the sound AND you can record in Stereo, single soundcard only allows for Mono. How do you record your sets (if you do any) on Traktor? Do you use an external recorder? Thanks.

AFAIK, there are no different versions with varrying colors. It's a configuration option, you can make it any one of those colors, blue, yellow, green, red or grey. It's just a skin found in the appearence settings of the program. As for your clicking. Try changing your latency timing from whatever it is to a higher value. Keep incrementing the number slowly until the cracking stops. I had mine set too low at one point and had the same problem. Once I increased my latency time, the problem stopped.

tw1tch is absolutely right about latency
do the following to change your options
1. open traktor
2. at the top click on setup
3. in audio menu change the Latency from 3 to 372
4. click "ok"

as for the recording you can either use an external program to record it or use a built in recorder that comes with Traktor

it may seem like a bit complicated at first, I have had it for over 2 months now, and can do nearly perfect mixes (most of the time it's my mistakes in mixing) the key board shortcuts really help out too.
Just play around with it and you will learn in my opinion the best mixing software out there!

Great, thanks for all the info. I'll probably end up messing around with it enough to learn how to mix songs properly :stongue: I just want to get an extra sound card before I start playing with it again. Thanks for the replies.

you don't have to have an extra sound card, I believe you mentioned that you have Soundblaster Live
just look at the options in the setup
there is 3 options

1. Just speakers
2. Mono (left speaker) output & monitor (right speaker) mono
3. Speakers output & Headphones (monitor)

Ok this is the deal. I have a small Aiwa stereo system hooked up to my computer, and to the system there are 4 speakers hooked up. 2 large sony tower speakers, and 2 small aiwa surround speakers. I was able to hook up my system to one soundcard output and my headphones into the other. So everything was fine but for some reason, out of the system output, only the 2 aiwa surround speakers produce sound, and the 2 large sonys are completely silent. I haven't messed around with it and tried to fix it yet, which is what I should have done before posting. The only other problem is that it says that you can only record in "MONO" with one soundcard? Is that right? Thanks again Trancearmada.

I can't really help you with this one as I am not sure what to do my self, as for the recording in mono, that sounds right. I think that's what I read about the 1 sound card option.

Hello,
you can stereo sound cards, doesn't mean you needa buy two just to get it stereo. Just buy a soundblaster live, it has front and rear channels. I recommend that as it is $99 in AU dollers. Personally i wouldn't buy a second sound card.
