your gonna think i'm a freak again but the nuke warhead threat is covered on our end. we and the brits, the russians and maybe france have nuetron emission satelites that track warheads as they move across the earths surface and in flight (ICBM's first strike, retalitory). its a way we monitor each other and fledgeling programs around the world (north korea, pakis,)
dirty bombs are signifigant in that they don't emit the same type of radiation that plutonium warheads emit (lots of gamma) thus harder maybe impossible from great distances. key ports and shipping lanes can be monitored at relatively close distances but by then it may be to late. thats why we take chemical/bio and dirty boms so seriously bcause itnear impossible to trace from a distance.

What dervish said is common knowledge. I am sure if you asked yourself the question, what are the variables involved in this you would come up with teh same answers. In fact three are probably a few more obvious answeers to that question .
I think this threat is something we will always be after, the intelligence community is doing a decent job so far of picking up potential threats, we can hope that they will pick this one up if it occurs.
also we can hope for better political policy so the world attitude is a little bit better towards western civilizations. but thats a wild situation.
in all, the htreat has not and I doubt it will effect my daily goings on. however if such a thing did happen, I think those goings on will change a bit. |

| Are you sure "neutron emission satelites" exist? I mean I'd be pretty surprised if firstly they existed and secondly if they were any use. Are you sure it's neutron emission they detect? |

And there are hundreds of millions of posts, chats, and other messages that are faaaaaaaaar worse that are communicated on the net.
There are even anti-american/terrorist advocating chat rooms that speak much of their hatred for the US...

nuetrons have an extremely short half-life.
plutonium warheads emit metric buttonnes of it (gamma) |

I was sure it wasn't, gamma sounds right but even then any shielding to make them safe and the distance between the sat and the earth would make me doubt the usefulness or existance of them.
I mean detecting some material in a case or a container at and airport or port is one thing, but tracking from space is another. |
