also remember that in a lot of places you get charged by the merchant for using a credit card. for a two week tour in africa they wanted 5% extra for cc payment, so it's worse than any exchange commission. 5% doesn't sound much but when you're paying for big stuff it's worth considering. Also cannot pay for fuel on c/c over there.
upshot, you are going to need lots of cash anywhere you go, this is one more option.
I also only recently noticed that some places charge a higher commission for after office hours or weekend exchanges. 1.5% usually, 2.5% after hours. another thing worth looking out for.
one last trick is to put in all business expense claims in the foreign currency, then find the most advantageous exchange rate on a receipt and put that in too :) |

OK, so I am getting slugged, really should pay more attention....Re: not using ANZ....so far I've been able to balance it every month, no need for virgin(who really wants to be a virgin, come on :p).
For ATM widthdrawals, I use my credit union card.
For breakfast I eat food.
I also enjoy music.
