I think his parents were really supportive of him... he built his own synths and stuff while growing up.

Plus, he probably has a good relationship with his parents.

On his album "Drukqs" he has a song called "Father" (which is a nice instrumental, acoustic piano piece) and on the same album there is a phone message his parents left him, singing him "Happy Birthday". It's called "Lornaderek".

richard d. james is actually not ed up. his "disturbing" stuff is just humor; he found the 'come to daddy' video hilarious. it all depends on your sense of humor.

I think Richard is the one person who I'd love to meet and hang out with.

yes well.. *sigh* as I already said.... now that I know which song it is from, I no longer find it disturbing... just funny

Most of his music is pretty acceptable, it really is! For example: He often came with beautifull ambient/melodical-like tracks that really grew on me the past few months. Tracks like: "Maximim Electronica" (don't listen to the much more commercial version: "On"!), "Strange Duet" (with Robert Miles) Yes, that's the one who made the classic: "Children"!!
And other beautifull hibernation-stated chillers, like: "Ghost in the shell" and "Tree".
I certainly would recommend to listen to just one of his sick-minded productions: "Ventolin", and especially to the bassline, *cough*!
The only video I remembered from earlier days after downloading it, was "On". In the video, there's this beach and all those strange figures and objects that were dancing on it, really weird. But I still prefer "Maximim Electronica", that's some sort of descent 'version' of it!
Go check this guy out, and come back in about a half year would you!?

James is certainly not stupid, I suspect most of it is an act but he certainly has the talent. His music is weird at times, just like David Holmes but both are geniuses.

I never said anyone did. I simply stated he is not stupid, he is obviously a genius that does not care about what the mainstream music mag media thinks, he does his own thing and sometimes it is twisted but he makes damn good music. You also have people like FSOL, The Orb, who are every bit as twisted as he is and put out the same great music.

Well, they already said he was "fOOked up":nervous:
Anyway, here's a little list of his exiting ambient-like music:
(The fact that some of it is unpredictable, yet with beautifull melodies in it makes it so exiting!)

Aphex Twin - Maximim electronica:eyespop:
Gavin Bryars - Raising the Titanic (Aphex Twin Remix)
Aphex Twin - Twig
Aphex Twin - Isopropanol
Aphex Twin - Nannou (sounds from a little music box with some perfectly matched electro-percussion under it!)
Aphex Twin - On The Romance Tip (sooo piecefull, yet disturbing)
Aphex Twin & Robert Miles - Rare Duet

And then there is the most scarriest thing I ever heard:
Aphex Twin - Gwarek 2 (It's on druqs, the piano songs on that one are also very relaxing!)
