A perfect example of cheesey lyric killer is in 'Sun Decade - Follow You'.
'I would follow you, follow you in the meadow where you go and what you do, follow you.'
I presume this female is talking about a bloke. To be quite frank, I'm worried about what this bloke does in the meadow and leading this poor girl astray.
I'm only kidding, but this line does sound, so corny.
If you want evidence of masterful lyric writing, look no further than the bible of Scooter Scooter's Bible Of Lyrics
We can truly learn the art of lyric writing, from a true masters. Maybe I'm a sarcastic b*stard, but I'm not going to change. |

| I think that generally european (excluding UK) trance is cheesier. It's funny listening to how bad the Ian van Dahl singer is at english! She says "undershtand" instead of "understand" ;) |

Ok there is some really good trance with vocals, but a majority of it is TOTAL CHEZ. DJs and producers listen up, cause I want to start a discussion on exactly how to make your songs CHEESE FREE. First off, let us analyze a few examples:
Not cheese:
Coast 2 Coast - Home
Oakenfold - Southern Sun
Chicane - Autumn Tactics, Saltwater
Traveller In Motion - Believe (key south rmx)
Sholan - Can You Feel
Total Cheese:
Solid Sessions - Janeiro
Fragma - Toca Me (vocal mix) - my vote for the absolute worst vocal mix ever. Way to ruin a decent instrumental.
Lange - I Believe
Iio - Rapture
Motorcycle - as the rush comes
ATB - Let You Go
|
Oddly enough I like about half the tracks you listed in either category. To me it's more about taking each song specifically and as long as the lyrics don't go out of their way to be lame or annoying and as long as the voice singing them has an enjoyable sound to it, I am happy.
One thing I do think should be mentioned is that a lot of it comes down to personal taste.
Another thing to note is that sometimes the vocals being sweeping or melodic is often more important than what they say. I'm trying to think of an example but I guess from your list I would choose ATB's Let U Go (Airplay mix). The way the vocals are done makes it a very enjoyable track for me. I actually haven't even figured out every word she sings but the track just works for me. :o
It's also works slightly opposite for me in a couple of the Iio songs I've heard (Smooth [Airbase remix] and At the End [Midnight Radio Edit]) are songs I dig even though the vocals can be a bit cheesy or grating at times. Now Rapture [Original Mix]'s vocals actually do flow in with the song's melody pretty nicely and I really enjoy that.
Of course none of the stuff mentioned compares to what I find truly cheesy and annoying which are when you get some little Asian girl singing and it sounds like Alvin and the Chipmunks. I think that's called Happy Hardcore, but what it really is is Obnoxious Cheese. |

YES! Those are both tracks I really enjoy as well! Both flow with the music. |

How about : Way Out West - Mind Circus
Its kinda borderline like As The Rush Comes. Might lean more toward not cheese. |
The original version with vocals combined with the deep breaks sounds better then the G&D remix... |

A lot of the elitists will smirk when they read this but I think Ian Van Dahl - Try (original album version, not the updated one) is a bloody good track.
Sure it has some cheese elements, mainly the lyrical content but it's no more cheesy than a lot of the other tracks suggested.
Anyone who has not heard the original try mix should check it out. The production is deep and powerful and the melodies are subtle and there isn't vocal overkill. I'm glad I gave it a chance. |
"Try" was an excellent production. people automatically say is cheese cuz its made by ian van dahl.
the rob searle remix was awesome. |

Amoeba Assassin - Piledriver (Greyed out summer mix); I enjoy this track and I think it's a quality vocal trancer.
Mash Up Matt ft. Marcella Woods - Beautiful; this is a good song, but borderline cheesy in my opinion. It's all subjective.
Aurora ft. Naimee Coleman - Ordinary World; this is cheese, I think we can all agree on that. |

That's the funniest post i've read in a long time. Also i looked at the scooter page. What's disturbing is it took 4 ppl to write those lyrics. :nervous:
ZEBRAS CROSSING THE STREET
Leaving the whole week behind,
stop the trouble, open your mind.
Is this the life you want to live?
Clear up your mind, zebras crossing the street,
loosing control, everything is in your hand.
Running around, down the street,
buying some frozen food, put it in a fridge.
I want you back for the rhythm attack, coming down on the floor like a maniac
I want you back for the rhythm attack, get down in full effect!
I want you back for the rhythm attack, coming down on the floor like a maniac
I want you back, so clean up the dish
By the way, How much is the fish ?!! |
