We Need A General Strike

So tomorrow Mcguinty breaks more promises and is raising taxes on a whole host of things. Liquor and beer taxes are up. Cig taxes are up. Income tax is going up (in the form of a health care premiums) and they are even toying with the idea of raising sales taxes.
I wish Canadians had the balls to protest in a national (or provincial) general strike to protest this BS. Why cant we shut down the whole province for a day by refusing to go to work or buy anything like many countries do?
Its high time we fight back against our declining standards of living and lying politicians because the status quo doesnt cut it anymore. |

Whats worse are the people who dont vote at all but then complain when they make decisions that affect them personally. |

Canadians aren't very revolutionary people. It's gonna be a while before anyone gets off their ass and decides to take some action. Look at our history; we're the biggest pushovers.

Voting was 1 right which I never excercised, but I'm really starting to get sick of this they're pulling. Didn't Mcquinty say that he'll do something about car insurance?? :rolleyes: |

Which is why it is imperative that one does vote.
It's both a right AND a responsibility of every citizen...

lets see...we have a 5.6billion dollar deficit, with taxes being where they are.
we would like our quality of life to increase.
we do not want to pay for that increase in the quality of life.
what does this mean? we are in debt because we want to spend, spend, spend, but not pay pay pay.
People, remember the government isnt some enemy, it is here to govern this nation/province/city.
If we incrase spending(increase quality of life) without raising taxes, how do you expect the debt to shrink? It cant. Which means we will be further in the hole, which means Ontario will have less buying power in the future, less subsidies, less everything, which in tern will lead to an even lower standard of living.
Running a country/province/city is EXPENSIVE deal with it, especially when we have a highly trained labour pool, which expects to be paid as highly trained labour
I dont agree with raising taxes too much, cause we do pay a lot. But there is no need for a tax cut, or to complain about a small tax hike. Will you really miss that $100 at the end of the year?
But i do agree something must be done about car insurance, it is totally out of hand, even though i dont pay it. I am on your side, but we need to look at the problems from all angles! |

Canadians routinely take it up the ass in all aspects of life.
And REAL protesting works. Remember how truckers went out and blocked highways last time gas prices went rediculously high? Well check the diesel prices today. They arent much higher than normal yet the traditional car driver is getting nailed because they know that all we will do is bitch about it.
Its high time we fight back and show the various governments in Canada that we arent writing a blank cheque for 4 years every time we elect someone. I very much agree with the recall law in California for example.
I also think that Mcguinty should be charged with fraud since he knew full well that he wouldnt be keeping election promises. If we can sue people in the private sector for not keeping to their word, especially when its signed on paper, why shouldnt we apply the same standards to public figures in office?
Mcguinty did sign the taxpayers protection pledge after all. |

You see that's all correct...but I distinctly remember him saying that he can achieve it all without raising taxes, he can achieve it all with balancing the budget...he even had a website specifically talking all about that...and look at him now.
We are upset because he LIED...and didn't keep even one promise so far. Not because he's actually doing a good or a bad job (which he is anyway) |

Queen's Park, Toronto, May 5 /PR Direct/ - This afternoon, members of the Official Opposition called Premier McGuinty and the Liberal government to task for its decision to break key election promises and the laws of the province of Ontario. Dalton McGuinty and members of the Liberal Cabinet, have made a conscious and premeditated decision to violate provincial law and drive Ontario into deficit – this despite their election promise to “comply with the Taxpayer Protection Act and balanced budget legislation, not bend the law at whim.”
“Premier McGuinty has become the poster child for political cynicism in our country,” said John Baird, MPP Nepean-Carleton and Conservative Finance Critic. “The fact that the Premier and his Cabinet colleagues are willing to break a written pledge and callously violate provincial law takes this government’s record as promise breakers to a whole new level.”
Over the past two days, several members of the Liberal Cabinet have come forward and announced that they will break Ontario’s Balanced Budget Act, and run deficits for years to come. The Act prescribes a fine of 25 percent of all Cabinet Minister’s salary for failing to uphold the law.
“It is disturbing to think that a signed pledge from the Premier of this province is not worth the paper it is written on,” said Bob Runciman, MPP Leeds-Grenville and Official Opposition House Leader. “For the Premier continually to say one thing to Ontario taxpayers and promptly do the exact opposite is unacceptable.”
In six short months the Liberal government has broken over twenty of its campaign promises, inflicted the largest tax increase in Ontario history on taxpayers, recklessly spent over $3 billion and committed to wiping out the very legislation that holds them accountable.
“The Official Opposition will not stand idly by and watch this government destroy the confidence that Ontarians once held in their government.” Said Baird. “The Premier may no longer be concerned with the sentiments of Ontario voters now that the election is over, but the Liberal government has a duty to act with integrity an uphold the laws of this province.” |

to that i concead, you are right. see i didnt start paying attention, till after he got elected(dumb me), so i didnt actually hear any of his promises.
wasnt his excuse that he thought the debt was like 2-3billion, and dint know it was 5-6billion? |

This country doesnt have to be this expensive...
If we actually put money to good use we could lower taxes. Instead what i see is:
-Taxes going up while services go down
-billions of dollars being STOLEN at every level of government most notably with Paul Martin's liberals whom we are stupid enough to about to re-elect
-health care..... if we had real discusions about health care reform instead of scare mongering we could actually cut the waste and cut the costs while IMPROVING the service similar to what has happened in most of Europe.
My issue is with how McGuinty has blatantly lied, how martin's liberals have literally stolen our money, and how we are stupid enough to still hold them #1 in polls that are taken.
We need to a) vote these s out at the federal level in next month's election (that means bye bye Paul Martin) and b) call a general strike in Ontario to force the provicial government to live up to its promises. |

Speaking of health-care...Recently a report has been released that confirmed what I thought a long time ago...Healthcare in Canada - Compared to other developed nations that were polled...SUCKS! :whip:
If i'll find the actual report I'll post it. |
