What about this...

Would it be best to remove the Kick from your drum loops and patch it to another track for the purpose of compressing the kick only??? I mean why muffle the cymbals and hihats...a drum patch consists of total opposite sides of the sound spectrum (cymbals and bass)and so I would imagine this would seem like a better idea. Maybe even apply some HF Exciters to the snare/cymbals track while we're at it?
Is this what you guys already do? |

| if you want to be on the safe side not trusting your tools then split them up on separate machines, or you can go with a mb comp like tranc3 suggested (although I see it as somewhat unsafe as you might get unwanted compression on some elements anyway) |

i don't use complete drum loops... but i do compress the kick alone.
do drumloops save cpu speed or so..? |

Not in any noticable way. |

| I compress my samples individually before they get loaded into the drum machine/sampler. After that, they only get compressed by the master compressor. |

master compressor <--:whip: :whip: :whip:
ignore that if you meant by the compressor in the mastering process ;) |

Yes..that's what I meant...but I thought MASTERING was done OUTSIDE of the workstation in AUDITION or something else.
Isnt that still Mixing if you are doing something before the mixdown?
ooohhh soo confuuuused :conf: :eyes: |

who cares where you do it?
music hqw to be sound good and not to be a correct mathematical calculation...
and mastering is not always down outside the sequencer. you can do it as good in the sequencer as with outboard gear or external applications.. |

i found that the best solution to mastering is your own...don't listen to anybody when they asy it has to be done a certain way...there is no specified way to master...well sort of..lol. I mean that what you should do is determin what suits you. try differnt ways and listen to people but develope your own way that you feel comfortable with. to the question at hand...well it is a good idea to compress the individual kick then make a loop and compress that...then i'd add the hats on it. I don't think there is any need for compression to the hats if your don't like...i really don do it much unless I want a nice harsh snappy hat. You could multiband comp it but I don't suggest that at this point it would be better off to do it latter in the end...but thats just me.

Traditionally, yes. But if you can get a good result during your sequencing, why bother? |
