THIS IS TAKEN FROM A NEW YORK CITY MESSAGEBOARD
With arc closed...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So the other day I was thinking about arc closing and I think the thing that sucks the most, is that I can't just go out every weekend to go dancing. Before, there was always that possiblity on a Friday or Saturday night to go to arc and KNOW you were going to have a decent time. Now I have to wait for specific events to come around and pick and choose them, especially since they're all so damn expensive. It really sucks not having a weekly party to go to. I need to dance more than once every 3 weeks. All the other weekly parties aren't nearly as good...the djs suck, the venues suck, the prices are ridiculous. There has to be some other options....anyone know of any? |

luckily we still have some great venues here.... we'll see if these new clubs are great or just end up being the walmart of gino clubs.

Thank god for that... that place was g-head central in the scene @ the time. I've only seen injected drugs and crack smoked @ MEOW. |

What woes are you talking about??
If anything, Toronto has more than enough clubs to satisfy even the craziest music fan. This summer we've got big DJs coming to town on a weekly basis. |

Arc isn't actually closing for good.... I heard they're moving to a new location and plan to open in the Summer. |

no in eh?!?!
Find me a city in North America that has a party every friday, saturday and sunday. In Toronto you got 4!! System on friday, Guvernment on saturday, Boa early sunday, then Zone till in MONDAY.
Each feature absolute QUALITY DJ's on a weekly basis.
And as far as special events/internation talent goes; Only NY and Miami can hold their own in North America. And thats not always. I don't think any city has as much of an impressive line-up as T.O through till early July. Although Miami has a very nice lineup too. |

He does have a viable point in the fact that the tenous relationship our scene has had with the cops since the late 90's has seen the complete death of the rave scene in Toronto.
You can hardly call a few large parties like the Nightmare and Hullabaloo events held throughout the year a "rave" scene anymore. The sad reality is it has been reduced to a handfull of events and exceptionally small parties. The breaks crew seems to be the only ones with any community and solidarity these days, and go weekly.. multiple times a week in summer @ that.
As for clubs, even though there is a burgeoning new group of them with stellar decor and supa-star lineups, the staples have revamped as well. Between the financial strain and the constant neighbourhood outcry against a venue everytime one opens, the management will have a difficult time over the summer, and I doubt every venue will out there currently will see summer 2005.
Whether that is due to police & drug enforcement, liquor license act issues, or $$$$, we can be certain of 1 thing....this summer is gonna be in nuts... |

2 things... first the no smoking law is going to hurt us. Anyone who doesnt think so is living in a fantasy land. #2... what the hell is left to do on a friday night, a thursday night... etc in Toronto...
Anyone? The only thing i can think of is viva on fridays and the odd time system brings in a good dj. But those 2 places are both late night ideas.
Saturday is full of great venues but what about the rest of the week?
4 years ago i could party from wed to sun if i wanted to. There are lots of events starting up for the summer but right now its tumbleweeds city. |

Toronto, like any scene, has it's issues.
However, lack of quality venues and events 7 days a week isn't one of them, even during the traditional slow period that the winter should have been.
You just need to stroll down Queen St and sort through the flyer stacks my friend. |
