I did say mulit-character. it delves into the chakra system, magick, and specials for each particular character plus each personality and personal issues. thats depth one piece doesn't include. Naruto includes also parallel devices such as the zodiac and elemental system to show some realistic *applied* concepts already present in Asian culture,specifically Japan. , it even has the birthdate for each character which is a favourite subject of mine: Numerology, the study of personality, traits, and destiny. |
Bah... You seem to be missing my point. One Piece takes nearly the first 50 episodes for the main characters to develop (And it does this in steady rate that doesn't leave you bored). Episode 60 is probably the first episode where the main story starts taking place.
Honestly, though, devil's fruit is the same thing as jutsu. Each devil's fruit is unique and has different effects on the user (I mean... elemental and physical effects are just so cool. How can you NOT like Smoker?) All those other things in Naruto that you listed? I don't really see them being used directly in the anime, any more (and yes... I still am following Naruto)
Just wondering how Naruto expands upon other characters? There are "Core" characters based on the saga (ex. Gaara and Orochimaru) that are expanded upon... but everyone else is barely even explored, internally. Shoot... Sasuke's past is only NOW revealed - I've barely seen any real character build-up with him other than "I'm a badass who doesn't care for anybody" and "I'm alive only to kill one man".
In my opinion, chakra is just the same crap as "energy levels" from the Dragon Ball series. All the spiffy attacks are based around having a certain amount of Chakra but just like the Dragon Ball series, they could have hand to hand fighting. I'll definitely give the series props for having such inventive characters, attacks, and general storyline, but I believe that One Piece's aspects are as good, if not better.

ehh...series was great until i started reading the manga online and its like 5X farther than what the anime is at right now so there's no point in me to watch the anime since i already know whats going on...

Yeah... I'm following the manga at the same pace as the anime. I'm really, really, REALLY trying to hold myself back from looking at the later manga chapters to spoil the anime but it's so hard >.< |

Naruto is fun to watch!
Havent seen One Piece yet but I've heard that action scenes rival that of DBZ [which everyone should admit, were very good].
But I'm a bit old school, love anime from the 80's:

Anyone here to have watched classic anime like the first macross(called robotech in america i thing), nausica of the valley of the wind, captain harlock(arcadia!), lensman , windaria(called "once upon a time" in the us i thing- i remember this quite well, i was very young when i first saw it and the last scene where the main hero finds his wife dead turning into a bird haunted me. Anyone having seen this knows what i mean),chojin locke(superman locke), battle angel alita(gunn-dream in japan, more recent but still fantastic)...
...actually i thing now that classic anime(80s, beggining of 90s) used to be much better in terms of scenario and inspiration... |

| i heard good reviews on naruto but cartoons arent really my thing anymore. I grew up watching anime and still never really caught on to it. |

eh, that's the how i felt about it as well, my friend told me to watch it but my gut reaction was a hell no, not only was i sick of cartoons, watching it another language is a real piss off.. until then my freind lent me the cd's cos i had nothing better to do on a rainy weekend and bang, the next thing u know your hooked
it's a really good anime series that should be for everyone, even if you don't really like cartoons and it's not that entertaining, it's well worth a shot to see what the anime is really like besides tons of good reviews..
so if you have the time, anyone should watch this series, it's really good as most of the people have discussed in this thread! |
