it is scary but i know this old guy he is in his 50s already and he used to Dj in the 70s and now he lost some of his hearing. he uses a hearing aid on his left ear..it is sad. i hope i dont end up like that.

| Actually in my car I listen to music at a much louder level than at home with headphones. Don't know why. |

| i've been very suspicious about my hearing for the past year. recently i had to get a physical and they put me in 1 of those little sound proof boxes and u raise your hand when u hear the beep. i don't know if i was nervous or what but i was missin beeps and hearin beeps that weren't there. it was bad. the doctor then startin' askin me if i ride motorcycles alot or work construction. all i could think about was the music in the clubs. occasionally i see ppl wearing earplugs in clubs. i wonder if it helps or if it distorts the music at all. has anyone ever tried this???????? |

hey i have a story to tell....but it isnt really about trance though.
well, as some of you may know, i live in the home of the kings, and when u go to arco arena (where they play), it gets really really loud in there (its rumored to hit 130db sometimes). Ive been to a kings playoff game once (against the suns), and they told us to bring earplugs. But i didn't wanna be a wuss, so i said fu*k it. to get to the point, after the starting intro where they introduce the starting lineup, my ears started to ring (its not ten minutes, its more like 5), The game was like 2hr long, and after the game, i lost a great deal of sensitivity in my ears. i got it back after a week or so
from that point on, I never turned my headphones/speakers up that high...not even on my favorite trax. Its not only trance. my point is just try to stay out of a noisy environment, no matter what it is |

who are the kings? (im irish)
anyway, a ringing in the ears is called tinnitus common after being subjected to long periods of loud noise. if its constant, then you need to see a doctor.

I know for a fact that earplugs will filter the bad noises from your ears but they wont make you hear less music.....
Ive heard earplugs is a REALLY good option when going to a club.... |

ya, i used to listen to walkman too loud :(:(:(
but also my mum has bad hearing, so i think it must be in genes :p:p:p
anyway, normally i try not to listen too loud, but when a tune comes on...damn it heheheh!!! :D:D:D
also, that's why i don't like to go clubbing too much, i'm sure it's a health hazard the volume they play!!!...damn i feel sorry for the people who go out every week, or more...i can't believe their hearing is going to be any good in a few years or less even :(:(:(

This subject always gives me goosebumps, I'm a commercial pilot and if I lose my hearing I lose my medical certification and hence my job. I love going out and listening to trance as much as the next man but I never go clubbing without earplugs these days. I used to play guitar in a punk band for a couple of years while I was at university (before I saw the musical light :D ) and I went to some horrifically loud shows in those days (Motorhead at Brixton Academy, gave me ringing ears for damn near a month!!) I have a tiny but measurable amount of low frequency loss already, and I'm not interested in any more of it.
Anyway luckystrike, you should be able to buy 'sonically correct' earplugs from most musical instrument shops, they reduce the percieved volume by the same amount across all frequency levels (i.e. the sound level drops but it doesn't come through all muffled). Not cheap but anyone who cares about music and goes regularly clubbing is mad not to have 'em in my opinion.
