Being "Elitest" or "Jaded" (pg. 2)

Every new generation of listeners will look back and say similar such things about following generations.
This is not only the case in trance, but other major forms of music in the world. I have discussed a parallel case for hip-hop on another board.
There is exciting growth in trance artists and listeners alike who listen to other styles of music and combine. Parents to new children, so to speak.
My belief is that like a buffet, one should at least be aware of all the choices out there and make their own informed decision *after* that fact. If you have made your decision and yet not considered all the possibilities, what hope is there?
It's not like the old music has died either -- much of it is preserved in digital form for future generations to enjoy.
I enjoy "the mainstream underground" -- popular music with a twist to it.
When people say something cannot happen, it often and inevitably does happen -- change does occur -- but too much of anything new becomes old in the due, passing course of time.
Look at a lot of very experimental, bizarre glitch electronic music, a lot of that is ironically cliche now. So it is not only the mainstream.
A lot of it, I observe, also has to do with many artists -- many individuals who should sound unique -- sounding very similar or all like one. Sort of like The Borg are making Trance music. I find this difficult to distinguish. Being influenced, being inspired is quite alright, but if I want to listen to DJ Tiesto, I will listen to DJ Tiesto, not his Mini-Me as is said in popular culture.
. . .
My sig is beginning to make more sense now ;):D |

I believe the real elitists like Dark Tenshi said would not ignore something they like or not admit to it just because they want to keep their reputation. I have seen elitists that confess their guilty pleasures. |

Good observation.
I do not really understand some of the intricacies of some social constructs such as "reputation" when it comes to tastes in music. I just cannot relate to it.
When I generally think of elitist or snob, it has a really bad vibe in my mind. Of course, there's no reason why using the word in a more positive or playful context couldn't turn this around. But I usually call those who know a lot and are friendly "experts", or "leading authorities in the field of trance music" :) ha ha ha
It is entirely possible as well that there is a downside to knowing too much as well -- a large part of the wonder of the world is mystery and discovering new things. One often becomes jaded as the rate of new discoveries diminish and one believes that he or she has heard most or all of what there is to be heard.
Some peeps on here need to form a trance production team called "The True Elitists" :) |

| I only know one "elitist", or whatever he is, on this board that actually has valid reasons why he thinks what he thinks. The rests explanations basically just come down to "because it's better than yours". |

Who are you referring to :)?
BTW OT: I haven't seen Urgo yet but I'm getting into SG-1 and look forward to it, I saw the trailer with Dom DeLuise. Looks like a real blast. What other episodes do you recommend? |

Ishkur would be the referree. Or something.
WARNING: A few spoilers below if you haven't seen certain episodes at the end of season 7.
I'd recommend most episodes, but i'm just a SG-1 freak right now, so :p. Yeah I thought Dom DeLuise played that part well. Very funny.
Actually I suppose my favorite episode is "Window Of Opportunity". Also a funny ep. The one where Daniel goes insane is good as well in my opinion.
But a beef I have with the newer episodes is that they are trying to make it more talk and less action. Like Farscape, which I can't stand. The reason I like SG-1 is because of it's relatively minimal episode by episode plot and awesome action. Or if it's a more story oriented episode it's usually interesting in some way.
Nowadays you're more likely to see the new ball-less president debating over whether to think about maybe shutting the Stargate program down for the entire episode because possibly there might be a small danger lurking beyond the horizon that hasn't been there for 7 seasons apparently. Or the new ignorant civilian bitch of a SG commander doing the same. Oh wait, if they shut the SG down they won't be able to finish the last season and start a new spinoff series. President: "My Bad" Stupid new civilian diplomat SG commander: "My Bad". Meanwhile we lost 5 episodes to their moronic arguing with various members of SG-1.
Yeah you heard me, a civilian diplomat. She'll do a good job commanding 15+ teams of highly trained marines travelling to new and strange worlds with unknown consequences. Wait no she won't. She's a fkin civilian.
And what's with the wide screen letterbox view or whatever the hell it's called that they fancy using now? I thought they only used that on movies. That has always annoyed me wherever I see it. Anyways, it's a crappy low budget TV series, stop pretending it isn't and take away those black bars blocking half the screen.
But then we're due for the final season in a month or so, so who knows? Maybe president ignoramus and civilian commander bitch will get their heads out of their asses. And I hope Atlantis is true enough to SG-1 to be watchable.
But it's still one of my favorite TV series, don't be fooled. :haha:

| i'd probably be considered a bitchy elitist. but i just can't stand for artists who have the ability to make great music who don't realise that potential...its wasted sometimes and i'm not gonna feel bad about saying it... |
