Being "Elitest" or "Jaded" (pg. 3)

You have to take into consideration somer of these eliteist people have probably been into trance at some point but more importantly when trance was very much not in control of money making idiots and people who are in it just for money reasons and to be loved by all (Johan Gielen springs to mind here). Eliteists are not interested in seeing a dj covered in fireworks and being in a crowd where they are all prasing the dj.

Also there seems to be stereotypical views when it comes to these kind of people (elitests), most people associate them with hanging around the dj booth having a wank to technical skills. This can't be further from the truth as they are not interested in dj's but more about the music that is being played and dj's with lots of technical skill is just a bonus.

But that is not to say Elitists have a bad side they do of course, as they will not even listen to any dj who has had a venture into the mainstream (Picotto, Vath etc.) but in the end what can you do? Nothing it seems.

I disagree with the part that elistists or purists do not worship dj's. People like jeff mills get off with playing 70's tunes to a techno crowd, when other's would get boo'd off stage.

It's my opinion that mills could stand on stage twanging an elastic band in front of a microphone and his fans would call it a revolution in dance music.

I just don't get the use of the word "cheese" as an insult -- why, it's CHEESY!

its not that its an insult imo, its the fact that the artist produced his track for a commercial audience & $$, instead of for the joy of making good music. Just because its commercial doesnt mean its a bad production, but more or less bad morals(and probably really bad vocals).

im elite cause i listen to downtempo...

rofl

seriously thought i consider someone elite when they make music that is hot... i love dave clarke, but i also love phil k, even Sandstorm makes me warm inside...

the one thing i dont usually like is POP music only the 80's with madonna and jacko...

PINK FLOYD owns too =]

everyone needs to learn the longer you listen to one type of music the harder it is to change tunnelvision....

LISTEN TO WHAT YOU LIKE, you dont have to change ur music style or adapt to new music... just dont try to make people see music they way you do

There is a perfectly acceptable reason to be jaded. Trance back in 97-00 was cutting edge music. With each new track, new sounds were introduced. Everything seemed fresh and exciting. Now, many producers are taking formulas of the past pioneers can spitting out cookie-cutter sounds. Those of us who has been listening to trance non-stop since then has turned to other genres like progressive where sounds are still being pioneered.

Elitism is a different story. I think elitism is asinine.

there is still enough good tracks out there 2 listen to though. What happends when the holden pads get old and boring? Techno/house next?

Correct me if I'm wrong but progressive seems to be heavily influenced by trance. For instance, Sasha & Digweed played trance heavily and then moved to progressive. I can't really say what's next although 5.1 surround sound dance tracks will be pretty amazing. BT's next album will be in 5.1 Maybe the added dimensions will revitalize trance. :D

true maby, but then all the clubs have to spend $$$$ on the digi setups. Although that would be hot ish!

to be honest, I think the definition of a music elitist is someone that has completely destroyed any personal barriers against different forms and styles of music, and can discuss and argue different styles with a positive attitude.

it's ing easy to tell people their music selection sucks. hell, i do it all the time. :p

you also have to remember, this is the internet, and how people express their feelings with text in an anonymous manner is A LOT more different than how they usually deal with and react to other people.

just be humble damnit, there are enough -asses i have to deal with in real life, coming on here and having to sift through so much negative crap is just plain annoying.
