Pentiums are nice.. But overrated and overpriced.

You can get the same efficiency with less money by buying AMD, therefore leaving more money to other gear.
And AMDs aren't so unstable what Pentium fans tell. :D
Though they used to be, but that problem is fixed.

Now you telling it to me :D all my money is gone by now

Right i've settled on these 3 items, can't see any conflicts or problems. Tell me what you think:

MOBO - £50

CPU - £100

RAM - £65

Altogether - £215

Quite cheap.

The first step is a soundcard with ASIO support. Then your CPU usage will be much lower. Faster CPU, RAM, and all that stuff are too expensive for the difference they make if you don't have at least an ASIO soundcard yet... Once you get that though, RAM and proccessor upgrades make a difference, but are certainly not mandatory (you just need to have it fast enough after you get the ASIO soundcard).

The ram is too slow for the cpu. Look here http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/AMD_Bundles.html The 2nd bundle down is better and £217 (incl vat) so id probably get that.

What does everyone else think of his proposal? I might go for that one instead.

And, Stephenox, I already have ASIO.

Remember u might have to up the voltage (this is easy, just change a bios setting), but it comes with a decent cooler so temps shouldnt be a problem. If u order what u were gonna, it wont work and wouldnt perform near as well as the ocuk bundle even if it did work.

Oh, sorry then. =|

Cheers DJ-Fuq, I've ordered the 2nd bundle, and it should be here in a couple of days.

How hard is it to install myself? Does it come with instructions?

Get an AMD 64 if you got the money, i just got an amd64 3200+ and i cant run out of cpu power, i had over 10 vanguards going at the same time, gig of ddr400. Silly fast but needed. Try ebuyer.com its well cheap for pc parts. Still cost me 500 quid although i built it myself. Then when windows xp 64 comes you get a free upgrade and the comp goes faster. At the mo its jst about as fast as the top spec pentiums, only problem is they dont have hyper threading.

I dont know if ocuk will include their own instructions, ive only bought vid cards from there before. I know the cpu wont have instructions (or anything else) as its an oem, but u shouldnt need them anyway.
Installing shouldnt be a problem. If u do have probs u can always ring ocuk or go to their forums. It says 2500@3200 so i assume they have already changed the fsb. Anyway when u have put everything together fire it up. Go and have a look at the bios. Fsb/cpu bus freq/system clock should be 200, and multiplier 11 or auto (200x11 = 2200mhz/3200+). If the fsb is at 166 (166x11 = 1826/2500+) they havnt changed it so do it urself. Save settings and reboot. U should really leave a program like prime95 running for hours now to test for stability. If u cant be arsed at least put the system under a bit of stress by doing lots of stuff. If u do have stability problems or it wont even boot then u will need to increase the cpu voltage in the bios. U shouldnt need to go above 1.85, and if it wont run stable at 1.85 (very unlikely) phone ocuk. The higher u go the hotter ur cpu will get, especially under load, so u want the lowest voltage possible.

Do you know if u get the PSU (power supply unit) with the processor ?

It doesn't say on the site.
DJ-Fuq
No, ive never heard of a cpu coming with a psu (doesnt really make sense). Sure ur not getting psu mixed up with something like hsf?
U can get psus here btw http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Online_Catalogue_Power_Supplies_123.html If ur gonna get a qtec i would ask about them in the forums because they are unbelievably cheap compared to the others (might be bad quality)
